Sectional Wrestling Results Saturday, February 5th

Kuemper and South Central Calhoun At MVAOCOU- Class 1A Sectional 15

South Central Calhoun and Kuemper both advanced five wrestlers into next Saturday’s District meet. They both had a pair of champions and three wrestlers finished in second place. The Titans edged the Knights for 3rd place, scoring 168 points to Kuemper 167.5. The Titans finished 10-18 in matches wrestled with six wins by fall, three by decision and one by major decision. Kuemper fared a little better in matches wrestled, going 12-14 with seven wins by fall, one by tech fall and four by decision. The Titans advanced to Regional Duals on Tuesday. They face UR Ogden At Missouri Valley with the winner meeting Missouri Valley for the right to wrestle at State Duals.

Jayden Soard and Blake McAlister were both champions for South Central Calhoun. They both went 2-0 with a win by fall and a win by decision. Both won their championship matches by decision. McAlister at 170 and Soard at 220. Kevin King had to work his way back into 2nd place at 160, after losing in the semifinals, he won his next two matches to finish 2-1 with wins by fall and decision. Zachary Trott at 138 and Brock Nattress at 132 both went 1-1, taking 2nd place. Trott won by fall while Nattress won by major decision. Both Trott and Nattress lost in the finals but didn’t have to wrestle back. Daniel Melody at 285 went 0-2, Kolin Folsom at 120 went 0-2, Case Korleski at 113 went 0-2, Riley Timmerman went 1-2 with a win by fall at 152 and Evelyn Kramer at 106 went 1-2 with her win by fall. They all finished in 4th place. Chance Roeder at 195, Naylan Gulbranson at 182 and Delanie Westcott at 126 all went 0-1, finishing in 5th place. Kaden Dorman finished 0-2 at 145 and was 6th.

Riley Parkis at 120 and Jake Irlbeck at 145 were the two Kuemper champions. Parkis went 2-0 with a win by fall and the other by decision. Irlbeck also went 2-0 with a fall and a decision. Shae Parkis at 152, Brayden Riesberg at 195 and Cal Wanninger at 220 all went 1-1, finishing in 2nd place. Wanninger won by fall, Riesberg won by decision and Parkis won by fall. All three lost in the finals and didn’t have to wrestle back. Owen Nepple at 106 went 1-1 with his win by tech fall, finishing in 3rd place. Jake Hausman at 126 and Trent Eischeid at 132 both finished 3rd. Hausman lost in the semifinals, but bounced back to win his 3rd place match and got to wrestle back. He lost the wrestle back, finishing 3rd. Hausman won by fall. Kent Sanders at 38 went 1-1, taking 3rd with a win by decision. Trent Eischeid was 4th at 132, going 1-2 with a win by fall. Tate Bieret finished 4th at 182, going 0-2. Bryce Wiskus finished 5th at 170 with a win by fall and Hayden Stout was injured in his first match, finishing the day 0-2, in 6th place.

Carroll at Class 2A Sectional 4 at Harlan

Carroll will bring six wrestlers to the district meet next weekend as the Tigers were impressive at Saturday’s sectional meet at Harlan. Carroll won the meet as a team as well, topping Glenwood for the top spot with 183.5 points. As a team, the Tigers went 17-9 overall in their matches. Carroll moves on into the team dual tournaments on Tuesday. They will wrestle against 8th ranked Hampton-Dumont at Winterset at 6:00 with the winner facing on Winterset for the right to go to State Dual Meet.

Of the six wrestlers advancing to the district meet, five of them will go in as sectional champions. Dreylen Schweitzer, Carter Drake, Jireh Gallegos, and Rodmen Sterling all went 2-0 on their way to their sectional championships. Schweitzer won via fall at 1:56 and a 6-4 decision in the first place match to become a champion at 106 pounds. Drake won his semifinal match via fall at 2:17 and his championship match via major decision to grab the 138-pound crown. Gallegos won via tech fall and fall to claim the 145-pound championship. Sterling’s 2-0 day included a win via fall and sudden victory as he became the champion at 170 pounds.

Colton Wieland was able to advance to the district meet with his 1st place win at 285 pounds, winning via fall at 1:55. The lone runner-up for Carroll was Cael Nelson, who batted his way at 120 pounds. He won his semifinal match via decision, dropped the 1st place match via tech fall, and bounced back with a win in the runner-up match via major decision to advance to next weekend’s district meet.

East Sac At Woodbury Central- Class 1A Sectional 16

East Sac will send two sectional champions to districts next Saturday with Bradyn Burns at 113 and Charlie Veit at 132 both going undefeated, to finish in 1st place. The Raiders were 7th overall as a team with 95 points. They finished 12-11 in matches wrestled with nine of their twelve wins by fall, one was by tech fall, one was a major decision and the final win was in tiebreaker 1.

Bradyn Burns was the champion at 113, going 3-0 with all three wins by fall, Charlie Veit was also a champion at 132, going 2-0 with a win by major decision and then a come from behind win by tiebreaker 1 in the championship match. Veit trailed late in the third period. Garret Ortner was 5th at 120, going 2-1, with both wins by fall, Kinnick Fahrenkrog was 5th at 170, going 2-1 with wins by fall and tech fall, Kaydon Erpelding went 1-1 at 182, taking 5th place with his win by fall. Chandler Lahr went 1-2 at 152 with his win by fall, finishing in 4th place. Landon Graff went 1-2 at 126 with a win by fall, taking 6th and Landon Grindle went 0-2 to finish 6th. Tate Lahr was 0-2 at 138 and didn’t place.

Audubon and Coon Rapids Bayard at Class 1A Sectional 11 at AHSTW

Audubon and Coon Rapids Bayard traveled to AHSTW for the Class 1A sectional 11 meet on Saturday for a chance to send some wrestlers off to the district meet next weekend. Audubon had some solid performances that got them in fifth place in the team standings with 95 points, while Coon Rapids Bayard ended in seventh place overall. The Wheelers went 7-10 in their matches while Coon Rapids Bayard was unable to pick up a win going 0-5.

Audubon was able to send off one wrestler to the district meet. Cooper Nielsen dominated at 220 pounds, winning via fall at 0:32 and 0:46 to win the 220-pound crown and advance to next Saturday’s district meet. Lane Barber and Alex Foran both qualified for the wrestle backs, but both lost via fall in the final moments of the match. Jack Stanerson was able to win his third-place match over Jamison Larsen at 106 pounds, but he didn’t qualify for the wrestle back for a chance to take second place.

Coon Rapids Bayard had Preston McAlister wrestling at 182 pounds, Jacob Meshek competing at 195 pounds, and Tyler Mohr wrestling at 220 pounds. All three wrestlers wrestled well but lost via fall in their matches. Tyler Mohr finished in fifth place at 220 pounds and McAlister in 4th place at 182 pounds.
