Audubon 55

The game had 9 lead changes and was tied 5 times with the Wheelers holding their largest lead early in the 2nd quarter at 21-14 and CAM Anita grabbing their largest lead early in the 3rd quarter (36-29). Both teams battled back and had a chance to win down the stretch and it was the home team, taking the lead last at 56-55 and holding on to win.

CAM Anita kept the door open for the Wheelers, missing 6 straight free throws down the stretch but Audubon had a couple turnovers and missed a three at the buzzer to tie the game.

Audubon knocked down 11-3’s with Kate Tessman hitting 5 and Audrey Jensen 3. They played most of the 2nd half and part of the 2nd quarter without leading scorer Aleah Hermansen who was injured in the 2nd quarter and tried to come back in the 3rd. After struggling to close out the 1st half the Wheelers who were down 30-27 at half battled hard in the 2nd half. Tessman and Jensen were only two of the players who came up big in the 2nd half. Jaci Christensen was scoreless in the 1st half but scored 10 points in the 2nd half, having a double-double. Sienna Albertsen and Madison Steckler both made big 3’s and Cheyenne Barber was tough on defense and finished with 6 points.

The 1st half went back and forth early with 4 lead changes before Audubon got a pair of free throws from Aleah Hermansen to put them up 10-8. Hermansen hit a baseline jumper to make it 12-8 but CAM Anita answered with 4 straight to tie the game for the second time. Jaci Christensen found Madison Steckler for a 3 and Aleah Hermansen hit Audrey Jensen for a 3 and Audubon led 18-14 after the 1st quarter. The Wheelers extended the lead to 7, starting the 2nd quarter when Audrey Jensen found Kate Tessman for a 3. CAM Anita cut it to 2 but Jensen found Tessman again for a 3 and the Wheelers were up 24-19 midway through the 2nd quarter. The Cougars put together the longest run of the game with Hermansen on the bench. Their 11-0 run gave them a 30-24 lead. Audrey Jensen scored off a pass from Kate Tessman to close the half and Audubon was in the game, down 30-27.

CAM Anita came out hot to start the 3rd, going up 36-29. Aleah Hermansen came back in the game and the Wheelers responded with a 6-0 run with threes from Kate Tessman and Audrey Jensen. They outscored the Cougars 13-2, taking a 42-38 lead. CAM Anita went back in front 44-43. Their lead grew to 3 but Audubon got a free throw from Jaci Christensen and a bucket from Cheyenne Barber that tied the game at 49. Barber scored again a few moments later to tie the game at 51. A Cougar 3 from Eva Steffensen put them up 54-51 but Kate Tessman added a 3 to tie it. A Jaci Christensen free throw put Audubon up 55-54. CAM went right back ahead at 56-55 then made a pair of free throws to make it 58-55. Audubon had three possessions with a chance to tie as CAM missed free throws in the final minute, but Audubon turned it over twice and had a rushed three at the buzzer.

Kate Tessman had a team high 15 points with 5-3’s. Jaci Christensen had a double-double with 10 points and 16 rebounds. Christensen also had 5 steals. Audrey Jensen had 9 points on 3-3’s and 6 assists.

Boyer Valley 44

Morgan Hanson recorded one of her best performances for the IKM-Manning as the Wolves battled in the second half to get past Boyer Valley Thursday night for their second win of the week.

The Wolves and Bulldogs had a back-and-forth battle to start the first quarter. Both teams started tied up at 2 points each, but the Wolves drained a three pointer to get up 5-2 and fought hard to keep their lead. The Bulldogs tied the game up again at 11 points, but IKM-Manning drained another three points to grab the lead again at 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. Boyer Valley got their offense started back up in the second quarter with another tie at 14 points and grabbing the lead at 18-16. The Wolves picked up the pace with the last few minutes of the quarter by going on a 6-1 scoring run to retake the lead at 22-19 and eventually extending it to 27-23 at halftime.

The Wolves had a monstrous third quarter as they attacked the basket well and left the Bulldogs in the dust. Hanson was dominant on the offensive side for IKM-Manning, putting up 25 points. Madrid at Glidden Ralston

Glidden Ralston 46

Madrid 29

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats bounced back from their loss to Woodbine on Tuesday with a solid non-conference win over Madrid Thursday, with Vanessa Koehler leading the charge offensively.

The Wildcats wasted no time getting both their offense and defense fired up in the first quarter. The Tigers were held to a mere four points while the Wildcats brought the heat with 14 points to lead 14-4. Glidden Ralston’s defense allowed a few more points from the Tigers in the second quarter. Madrid’s offense woke up a bit and was able to put up nine points, but the Wildcats stayed ahead by 11 with a lead of 24-13 at halftime. Glidden Ralston’s offense had plenty of playmakers, most notably Paige Klocke who’s been lighting up defenses all season long. She put up another strong performance with 21 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Vanessa Koehler was the star of the third quarter as the Wildcats’ defense got back to work, limiting what Madrid was able to accomplish. Koehler hit two big three pointers in the final 1:35 of the quarter to give the Wildcats a 20-point lead at 35-15 going into the fourth quarter. The Tigers, just like they did in the second quarter, got some good looks in the fourth quarter and stopped the productivity of the Glidden Ralston offense. Madrid put up a team best 14 points in the fourth quarter, but the large lead of the Wildcats was too much to handle as Glidden Ralston was able to come away with a 46-29 victory at home.

Koehler finished the game with eight points, four rebounds, an assist, and four steals. Tiela Janssen was able to get into double digits with her performance, putting up 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. The Wildcats will improve to 9-8 overall on the season. They will finish up their week of competition with another home game on Friday, February 3rd, against Rolling Conference Conference opponent CAM Antia.
