IKM-Manning At Missouri Valley

IKM-Manning 64

Missouri Valley 51

After a so-so first half of scoring, the IKM-Manning Wolves exploded in the second half with a huge third quarter and a strong finish against Missouri Valley to snap a six game skid Tuesday night.

The Wolves got their offense started well in the first quarter, especially when it came to their bench players. Starters Amos Rasmussen and Luke Ramsey were able to sink a three pointer each, but it was Lane Sams and Caden Keller who impressed off the bench with Sams also sinking a three pointer and Keller rebounding well. The Wolves got good looks and found themselves up 16-10 after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the passing potential of Missouri Valley was shown off as Connor Murray was placed right in the middle of traffic to either deceive the IKM-Manning defense or drive to the basket for a layup. Cole Staska was a big factor for the Big Reds, cutting down the Wolves lead as he sank two three pointers and had eight points in the second quarter. The Wolves had a chance to take the lead with 10 seconds left in the first half, but Rasmussen was unable to drain a jumper from the free throw line. The Big Reds came back from down six to tie the game at 23 points. Eight of IKM-Manning’s players scored at least a bucket in the first half, with Rasmussen leading the team with five points.

The Wolves had good looks in the first half but had trouble scoring, but that all changed in the third quarter. Like a rocket blasting off into space, the Wolves exploded with a strong 27 point performance in the third quarter. The most notable performance came from Sams who got the offense sparked with two three pointers  and leading the team with eight third quarter points. Missouri Valley committed more turnovers in the third quarter as IKM-Manning switched to their man-to-man defense to start the second half. The success from the third quarter continued a little in the fourth quarter as strong rebounding and defense from the Wolves gave them the opportunity to slow the game down toward the end. IKM-Manning managed to put up another 14 points and ride their third quarter momentum to a 64-51 victory over the Big Reds.

IKM-Manning will improve to 4-13 overall on the season and 3-11 in the Western Iowa Conference. The Wolves will round out their week of competition with a conference game against LoMa on Friday, February 4th at home.
