A really good start and first half turned into a tough second half as Kuemper ran out of gas on Saturday as they watched the game slip away in the 4th quarter. The Knights led most of the 1st half, trailing only 6-5 early. Kora Thomsen hit a jump shot just before half and the Knights took an eight point lead into the break. They scored 12 points in the 2nd half while Sioux City North came out with more energy in the 3rd quarter, scoring 21 in the 3rd to take control of the game. They put it away in the 4th quarter using a 13-0 run to blow the game open.
Frannie Glynn scored the first points of the game as Kuemper won the opening tip and found Glynn in the post, where she drew a foul, making both free throws. Catherine Mayhall found Akuet Malek on a nifty pass a few moments later and Kuemper led 4-2. Mayhall added a free throw and the Knights were up 5-2. Sioux City north answered with four straight and took their only lead of the 1st half, 6-5. Kora Thomsen fed Mayhall for a three and Kuemper took the lead right back. Frannie Glynn hit a free throw before Catherine Mayhall whit back-to-back buckets and Kuemper was up 14-7. Akuet Malek scored again to end the 1st quarter and the Knights led 16-9 going into the 2nd quarter. The lead grew to seven when Mayhall fed Glynn for back-to-back baskets. Mayhall drained her second three and Kuemper began to pull away up, 23-15. Their lead remained around 7 to 8 points most of the rest of the 1st half, but Sioux City North made a run late in the 2nd quarter to pull within 3. The Knights responded with a 5-0 run to end the half, with Kora Thomsen draining a jumper near the lane with three seconds left in the half.
Sioux City North opened the 2nd half with a 12-0 run and never trailed again. Catherine Mayhall found Frannie Glynn cut it to 38-36 but that was as close as the Knights would come the rest of the game. After the slow start in the 3rd quarter, Kuemper hung close and Aubrey Hueton scored near the end of the quarter to get Kuemper within 5. The 4th quarter belonged to Sioux City North as they were able to get out on the break and out scored Kuemper 16-5 to pull away. Part of the 16-5 4th quarter was a 13-0 run by the Stars.
Catherine Mayhall led Kuemper with 15 points, 13 of those in the 1st half. Frannie Glynn added 12 points and a team high 9 rebounds. Mayhall led Kuemper with 4 assists and 5 steals. Akuet Malek finished with 8 rebounds, Aubrey Hueton had 5 rebounds and Kora Thomsen added 3 assists.
The loss drops Kuemper to 4-15. They travel to Harlan on Tuesday.

East Sac got a much needed win on the road, knocking off a team in the middle of the pack in the Twin Lakes Conference. The win snaps a three game losing streak. A quick start gave them the lead after the 1st quarter and half but they needed to hold on during a Titan run down the stretch. The Raiders came up big at the free throw line, making 13 of 18 for the game. GTRA cut the lead to 38-35 with 1:11 left, Carley Fischer hit a pair of free throws to extend the lead, Mary Bontrager added a free throw with 46.6 seconds left. The Titans answered with a pair of three throws with 0:39 seconds left but Kendall Quirk came up big with a free throw a few seconds later to keep the Raiders in control. Bontrager added a pair of free throws with 16.7 seconds left and East Sac prevailed.
The Raiders shot well from the field, hitting 40.6% of their shots including going 5-15 from three, led by Makenna Steiger, who went 3-6 from deep. East Sac turned the ball over 15 times, helping the Titans rally in the 4th quarter.
Mary Bontrager paced the offense with 17 points, Makenna Steiger hit double figures for the second straight game, scoring 11 points. Meredith Brown had a team high 9 rebounds, Carly Fischer added 6 rebounds and 6 assists, a team high.
The win improves East Sac to 5-13 overall. They travel to Pocahontas Area on Tuesday.
