Coon Rapids Bayard played one of their best offensive games of the year matching bucket for bucket with Ogden and pulling away in the 4th quarter for their 9th win of the season and second straight win. The Crusaders were able to overcome foul trouble, which sent Raiden Doty and Lance Clayburg to the bench in the 1st half. They were joined on the bench by Tanner Oswald in the 2nd half as he picked up his 4th in the 3rd quarter. All three remained on the floor in the 4th quarter as the Crusaders outscored the Bulldogs 16-11, getting free throws from Lance Clayburg, Gabe Obert and Tanner Oswald down the stretch. Though the defense gave up 60, about 15 more than their season average, they came up with clutch stops down the stretch. The defense forced several turnovers, blocked a couple shots and took a couple charges in the closing minutes. The offense shared the basketball well, with nice inside passes and good ball movement on the perimeter. They shot 46.4% from the field and hit 7-23 from three. They attacked the 1-3-1 and 2-3 really well and turned good shots into great shots with outstanding passing inside.  Their biggest improvement in the past couple weeks has been at the free throw line and Monday they hit 11-15. Coon Rapids Bayard led at the end of every quarter and  had an answer for every run Ogden made.

Three players finished in double digits with Lance Clayburg leading the way with 21 points. Clayburg added 13 rebounds. Tanner Oswald hit a couple big threes, finishing with four on the night on his way to 17 points. He added 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Gabe Obert was big when he needed to be, when Oswald and Clayburg were on the bench. He added 14 points. Easton Hays was all over the floor on the defensive side, adding 6 steals to to with 6 assists. Cade Behrens was forced into action in the first half and hit a pair of big buckets, finishing with 5 points. Raiden Doty added 4 steals and was big inside on defense.

The win moves the Crusaders to 9-6 overall as they head into a home game with Exira-EHK (10-4, 7-4) on Tuesday.

The Rockets stepped out of conference on Monday, traveling to a ten win Raptors team. They battled hard, hanging tight in the 1st half, down by 4 at half. A drought in the 3rd quarter put them behind by double digits, though they were able to get good looks. The offense kept battling and shots started to drop in the 4th quarter. The Rockets rallied from down 17, cutting the deficit to 8 with plenty of time left. They had several chances to cut into the deficit but missed multiple looks from beyond the arc.

Cooper Kock had another double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Emmett Neumann added 16 points and 5 rebounds. Will Ragaller finished with 5 assists and 4 steals, Braeden Kirsch had 8 rebounds and Connor Kirsch finished with 8 points.

The loss drops them to 5-10 on the season. They head to Woodbine on Tuesday.

East Sac won their fourth straight as they continue to grow as a team. It was a milestone win for Todd Bontrager, picking up career win 400, all coming at WLVA and East Sac. The Raiders started fast, building a 22-9 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. The inside game with Tyler Schmitt and Luke Wright was dominant early which opened up clean looks from beyond the arc for Aden Vondrak, Schmitt and Cale Niehaus later in the 1st quarter. They blew the game open with a big 3rd quarter, outscoring Storm Lake St Mary’s 21-9.  Tyler Schmitt was sharp in the 3rd quarter, finishing with 15 points. He finished the game 14-19 shooting.  The Raiders shot the ball well, hitting 52.8% from the field, including 50% from beyond the arc. They struggled from the free throw line, hitting 10-17. The offense moved the ball well, sharing the basketball, assisting on 19 of their 28 baskets. The defense had 12 steals to offset the offenses 12 turnovers.

Tyler Schmitt had a huge game inside with 32 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Wright added 15 points as those two battled foul trouble but were able to control the game inside. Aden Vondrak continues to be one of the best passers in the area, leading the Raiders with 9 assists to go with 4 steals.

East Sac improved to 7-8 overall and 5-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They host Manson NW Webster (2-12, 1-6) on Tuesday.

The Wildcats hosted the class of Class 1A as the Thunder improved to 18-0 with a team loaded with players that will play on the next level. The Wildcats best quarter was the 2nd quarter when they scored 14 points. They trailed 55-21 at half, scoring just 5 points in the 2nd half. Ethan Olberding and Cale Klocke shot the ball well from the outside. The Wildcats were able to get a lot of players in the game and the non-starters did a nice job hustling in the 2nd half.

Ethan Olberding led the Wildcats with 12 points, Cale Klocke added 10 points.

The loss drops Glidden Ralston to 2-12 on the season. They travel to Paton Churdan (0-12, 0-6) on Tuesday.

Audubon battled hard too the end, rallying from down 9 to cut it to 2 with 20 seconds left. The Bulldogs hit a pair of free throws to seal the win. The Wheelers played hard and maybe one of their better games this season. They exploded for 20 points in the 2nd quarter to lead 30-29 at half. Riverside responded in the 3rd, outscoring the Wheelers by 7.

The loss drops Audubon to 5-12 overall and 4-8 in the Western Iowa Conference. They have dropped 4 straight heading into Friday’s home game with Underwood (10-4, 8-4).
