Carroll at Harlan
Carroll 49
Harlan 46
After a back and forth second half, the Carroll Tigers were able to come away with a three-point victory against a tough Harlan team in non-conference action Thursday night.
The game did not start off close at all, the complete opposite was true. Camryn Schable and Josie Ayala were able to give the Tigers an amazing start with Schable draining two three pointers and a few buckets to boot and Ayala bullying her way to the basket for seven points in the paint, which gave the Tigers the 20-12 lead. Both teams in the second quarter struggled a bit to get points on the board, but Carroll was still able to find Ava Gross for a three pointer late in the quarter. Erica Rust for Harlan kept the Cyclones within striking distance of the Tigers with two buckets in the quarter. The Tigers held onto their lead going into halftime at 28-22.
The second quarter is where Harlan made an impact. The Tigers were up 28-20 at one point in the first half, and that lead was cut all the way down until Harlan held the lead at 32-31 in the third quarter, their first lead of the game. The Cyclones scoring leader Raegen Wicks drained a three pointer in the third that kept the momentum going for Harlan. Carroll put an end to that lead as they were able to take back the momentum to lead 37-34 thanks to Schable getting another three pointer. The game went back and forth for a while in the fourth quarter as Carroll tried to stay ahead for as long as they could. Wicks spoiled those plans with three made threes in the fourth quarter alone to give Harlan the lead back at 46-44. The Tigers still had some tricks in their back pocket though with limited time left. Both teams were turning over the ball plenty of times, but Carroll was able to stay calm and even avoid some costly turnovers in the process. The Tigers held a one-point lead at 47-46 and with the control of the ball, Hannah Jorgensen was fouled and sent to the free throw line. She drained both free throws, giving the Tigers the lead with 10 seconds left. Harlan got the ball down court and attempted a layup and quick timeout, but it was not meant to be as they missed two critical layups. Carroll escaped with a big road win over Harlan 49-46.
Some notable individual performances from the Tigers included Camryn Schable who had four made three pointers for 19 points on the night. Jorgensen, the hero of this game, had a solid night with eight points, three rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block. Josie Ayala was one point shy of a double-double with nine points, 13 rebounds, one assist, and four steals. The Tigers will improve to 6-7 overall on the season. The Tigers can take a deep breath as they are off until Tuesday, January 25th when they will be at home to take on Winterset.

Audubon at Tri-Center
Audubon 56
Tri-Center 45
The Audubon Wheelers continued a successful second half of their season with win number 10 overall as they got past Tri-Center Thursday night.
While the Wheelers had a good first half, the Trojans weren’t too far behind them. Both teams started off tied at 2 points before the Wheelers went on a big 7-2 run to get them up 9-4. Not before long, the Trojans were able to grab the lead for the first time at 12-11 and even extended it to 15-11. Audubon was able to drain a three pointer to bring them within one point of Tri-Center’s 15-14 lead going into the second quarter. A big reason for Audubon staying in this game was the performance from Aleah Hermansen who dropped 29 points in this game. The Wheelers were able to regain the lead to start the second quarter, and even went on an 8-0 run to get up 22-15. Tri-Center spent most of that quarter playing catch up, and eventually cut down the Audubon lead to 29-25 going into halftime.
Audubon’s success from the field continued into the second half as they used another early 8-2 scoring run to get up 37-27 and keep their lead strong throughout the half. Tri-Center was kept to a mere six points in the third quarter as Audubon had their best scoring quarter at 17 points to take the 46-31 lead into the final eight minutes of play. Thanks to their strong defensive third quarter and continued success scoring, the Wheelers were able to stay ahead of Tri-Center into the fourth quarter and eventually come away with the 56-45 win. The Wheelers grab their 10th win of the season and improve to 10-6 overall on the season and 6-3 in the Western Iowa Conference.
The Wheelers wrap up their week of competition with another conference game on Friday, January 21st at home against AHSTW.

Coon Rapids Bayard at Woodbine
Woodbine 50
Coon Rapids Bayard 43
The Coon Rapids Bayard Crusaders battled for a chance to stick with the top teams in the Rolling Valley Conference as they took on Woodbine in a close game Thursday night.
The Crusaders matched up well with the Tigers from start to finish, with Woodbine only holding a two-point advantage at the end of the first quarter at 13-11. Coon Rapids Bayard held on closely with Woodbine into the second quarter as they scored the same number of points, but now trailed by six points at 28-22. Crusaders Head Coach Kaitlyn McAlister says her team played great defense against Woodbine and moved the ball well, but that didn’t stop Charlie Pryor from draining five threes in the game. Brynn Bass and Miranda McClellen were two stars for the Crusaders with Bass scoring a team high 16 points and recording four rebounds, two steals, and two blocks while McClellen had a team high 10 rebounds and three steals as well. One of the biggest defensive players for Coon Rapids Bayard was Megan Gray who had a team high five points and also came away with seven points and three rebounds.
The Crusaders were finally able to come away from a quarter outperforming the Tigers. They’d slightly edge the Tigers 13-12 in the third quarter, but still found themselves in a hole at 40-35. The Crusaders had a chance to take the game back into their favor as they were within three points of the Tigers’ lead with two minutes to play. The moment was spoiled when the Crusaders missed a big rebound and turnover which meant they had to foul to avoid the Tigers from breaking away for easy points. That final moment was the deal breaker for Coon Rapids Bayard as Woodbine held on to win it 50-43. As a team, the Crusaders went 14 of 21 from the free throw line.
Coon Rapids Bayard will fall to 7-6 overall on the season and 6-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Crusaders will return from the weekend with a non-conference game at home against Ogden on Monday, January 24th.

MVAO-COU at East Sac
MVAOCOU 66
East Sac 48
The East Sac Raiders got out to a strong start against MVAOCOU, but fell behind in the second half after an ugly third quarter and strong fourth quarter finish Thursday night.
The Raiders got off to a great start in the first quarter by leading the Rams 16-11 going into the second quarter. Meredith Brown and Mary Bontrager were the duo who kept the Raider ahead as they’d combine for 20 of the first half points for their team. The Rams started to bring much more intensity in the second quarter as the Raiders were only able to outscore them 18-17, but still keep their lead of 34-28. Brown had 11 points in the first half and Bontrager netted nine points.
MVAOCOU in the third quarter took advantage of the missteps the Raiders were taking to take the lead and get up by 10 points. East Sac had multiple turnovers and fouls early in the quarter that led them to be outscored 17-1 in the entire quarter and trail 45-35 heading into the fourth quarter. While the Raiders did a much better job of limiting the turnovers and scoring more, the 10-point deficit the Rams built up was too much to come back from. MVAOCOU escaped with some second half wishes granted as the Rams defeated the Raiders 65-48.
East Sac will fall to 3-10 overall on the season. The Raiders finish their week of competition with a Twin Lakes Conference match on the road at Alta Aurelia on Friday, January 21st.
