Ar-We-Va At Paton Churdan

Ar-We-Va led most of the game, getting up by as many as 16 in the 2nd half but they had to hold on as Paton Churdan rallied and cut it to 6 in the 4th quarter. The win moves Ar-We-Va to 5-9 overall and 3-8 in the Rolling Valley while Paton Churdan played maybe their best game of the season but fell to 0-11 overall and 0-5 in the RVC.

Parker Fitzpatrick making his first career start scored to put Paton Churdan up 2-0 early. Will Ragaller found Cooper Kock for a bucket and Conner Kirsch for a three and Ar-We-Va took their first lead at 5-2. Paton Churdan responded with free throws from Bradyn Smith and a bucket by Riley Cullum, and lead 6-5. Ragaller answered with a three and Ar-We-Va wouldn’t trail again. They led 14-5 after the 1st quarter and held an 8 point lead at half as both offenses got going in the 2nd quarter. Riley Cullum and Bradyn Smith heated up for Paton Churdan as they scored 17 points in the 2nd quarter. Conner Kirsch has come on strong for Ar-We-Va from beyond the arc, hitting three in the 1st half as he and Cooper Kock carried the early scoring load for Ar-We-Va.

A 5-0 run by Ar-We-Va to open the 2nd half blew the game open as Ar-We-Va kept the lead around 10-14 most of the 3rd quarter. Conner Kirsch hit a long three at the end of the 3rd quarter and they led 48-32. Paton Churdan responded in the 4th quarter and quickly pulled back within 11 and then fought their way back within 6 at 50-44. Ar-We-Va showed some character with an 8-0 run to end the game.

Cooper Kock and Conner Kirsch led Ar-We-Va with 19 points and 18 points respectively. Kock added 13 rebounds and Kirsch had 4 assists. Will Ragaller added 8 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Braeden Kirsch had 9 rebounds and Emmett Neumann finished with 8 rebounds.

Parker Fitzpatrick led Paton Churdan with 11 points along with 4 rebounds. Bradyn Smith was really good all-around with 8 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 3 steals. Riley Cullum added 9 points.

Ar-We-Va is back in action on Monday at Ridge View. Paton Churdan hosts West Harrison on Friday.

South Central Calhoun shot nearly 50% from the field as they continue to execute well on offense and put pressure on opposing teams to be nearly perfect on both ends of the floor. The Titans weren’t only good on offense but they created 19 turnovers with 15 steals. Joe Clark and Joshua Dietrich combined to go 17-22 from the field as the Titans had three guys in double figures.  The Titans won the rebounding battle 34-23 and had 19 assists on 29 made baskets.

Joe Clark and Joshua Dietrich each had 19 points and 7 rebounds. Eli Wheelock pitched in with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 steals. Tyler Lightner added 6 assists.

The win improves South Central Calhoun to 12-1 overall and 6-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference as they remain in first place a half game ahead of Newell Fonda and a game in front of Sioux Central and SE Valley. The Titans travel to Sioux Central on Friday.

Glidden Ralston fell but maybe played their best game of the season. The Wildcats defense did a nice job inside against the Spartans inside game while Ethan Olberding pressure the ball up the floor making Exira-EHK work to get the ball up the floor and into their sets. The offense did a nice job getting the ball inside, allowing them to establish Caden Smith and Tyler Brant. The inside game allowed their shooters to get cleaner looks and Emmett Snyder and Carter Soyer shot the ball well.

The Wildcats trailed by 3 after the 1st quarter and were down by 7 at half. They fell off a little in the 3rd quarter, scoring just 6 points but battled back to have a good 4th quarter as they scored in double figures in three quarters.

Emmett Snyder was huge off the bench again, finishing with a team high 10 points to go with 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Caden Smith added 8 points and 10 rebounds and Tyler Brant had 8 points. Carter Soyer added 6 points.

The Wildcats host Boyer Valley on Friday.

Things couldn’t have gone worse for Coon Rapids Bayard coming off their big win Tuesday over West Harrison. The Crusaders battled foul trouble and struggled from the field but still had a chance to win on the road. With all the troubles, the Crusaders defense held Woodbine scoreless for a ten minute stretch in the 2nd half, allowing them to build a 8 point lead with four minutes left. Their inability to finish in the lane allowed Woodbine to chip away and they took the lead late. The Crusaders shot just 30.4% from the field, going 17-56 overall and 1-13 from three. The defense picked up 12 steals but they turned the ball over 12 times.

Lance Clayburg was huge, keeping Coon Rapids Bayard in the game, finishing with 20 points, 12 rebounds, 5 steals and 5 blocks. Raiden Doty finished with 8 p0ints and 8 rebounds and Gabe Obert had 8 points and 7 rebounds. Easton Hays and Tanner Oswald saw limited minutes with foul trouble.

The loss drops the Crusaders to 7-6 overall and 4-5 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They host Woodbine on Friday.

The Raiders offense put up 73 points for a second straight game, helping them win their second game in a row, improving to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. Tyler Schmitt opened the game with three quick scores and then Luke Wright took over inside. The Raiders only turned the ball over five times, as they had their best offensive execution this season. The Raiders hit 29-54 shots from the field, though they were only 4-14 from three. Aden Vondrak was a big part of the offenses success, passing for a career high 9 assists. The Raiders combined for 22 assists on 29 made baskets. The 23 points halftime lead allowed East Sac to get a number of guys minutes and everyone played well. The Raider defense held MVAOCOU to 2 points in the 3rd quarter, outscoring them 21-2.

Luke Wright scored 14 points in the 1st half, finishing with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Tyler Schmitt scored 17 points with 6 rebounds, Tony Clair added 12 points, 7 rebounds and Aden Vondrak had 9 assists.

East Sac travels to Alta-Aurelia on Friday.
