Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: CRB Boys Win, Kuemper, Audubon, Paton Churdan Fall Monday

Kuemper had a chance late in regulation, having played very well against 8-2 Des Moines Christian. The Knights were up by 3 with under six seconds left but fouled the Lions who hit all three free throws, tying the game and sending it to overtime. Dennis Vonnahme hit a pair of free throws to put Kuemper ahead to start the first overtime but the Lions scored on a put back to tie it at 59. After an Isaac Evans free throw put Kuemper up by 1, Des Moines Christian took their first lead of the overtime extending the lead to 3. Dennis Vonnahme came up big for Kuemper with a three point play with 12 seconds left tying the game and sending it to a second overtime.

Des Moines Christian hit a free throw early in the second overtime, giving the Lions a one point lead. Both teams missed a few shots and had a couple turnovers before Isaac Evans tied the game with a free throw with 2:07 left. Carsen Theis won it for the Lions at the buzzer.

Kuemper had three guys finish in double digits with Michael Kasperbauer pacing them with 19 points, DJ Vonnahme added 17 points and Isaac Evans finished with 11 points. Nate Overmohle had a team high 7 assists and DJ Vonnahme picked up 8 steals. Isaac Evans led the team with 7 rebounds and Evan Adams added 6 rebounds.

The loss drops Kuemper to 6-7 on the season. They travel to Glenwood on Friday.

Coon Rapids Bayard started fast with 39 points in the 1st half, extending the lead to 37 in the 2nd half.  The offense attacked the lane and rim well with Gabe Obert, Lance Clayburg and Raiden Doty. Their patience on offense led to touches for Lance Clayburg, helping them score on nearly every possession. The offense was at its best late in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. After building the lead to 37 the Crusaders got a little quick on offense, leading to turnovers and opportunities for Woodward Academy to get into the lane on the other end.

The Crusaders shot 64.4% from the field, hitting 29-45.

Four guys scored in double figures with Lance Clayburg and Gabe Obert each having 18 points, Raiden Doty finished with 14 points and Tanner Oswald had 12 points. Clayburg had a team high 13 rebounds, Doty and Obert each had 7 rebounds. Easton Hays dished out 7 assists along with picking up u3 steals.

The win moved the Crusaders to 5-5 on the season and gives them their second straight win. Coon Rapids Bayard heads to Woodward Granger on Thursday.

Paton Churdan played their first game since the holiday break, struggling on the offensive end. The Rockets scored 9 points in three quarters but gave up over twenty points in both the 1st and 2nd quarters. They trailed 48-21 at half. The loss drops the Rockets to 0-7 overall on the season.

Joe Carey led the offense with 17 points, Bradyn Smith and Shaydon Thurman each scored 6 points. Parker Fitzpatrick had  a team high 6 rebounds. Justin Stream had a team high 3 assists.

Paton Churdan is back in action Tuesday when they travel to Boyer Valley.

Audubon struggled against the undefeated Vikings on the road, falling behind by 22 at half. The Wheelers responded in the 2nd half after scoring 5 points in the 2nd quarter with double digits in both second half quarters.

Jackson Deist led two players in double figures with 12 points, Collin Bauer added 10 points. Carson Bauer finished with 9 points.

The loss is the second in a row for the Wheelers, dropping them to 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the Western Iowa Conference. They host Missouri Valley on Tuesday.
