The Carroll Tigers had a disastrous start to their game against Carlisle Friday night, but they clawed back to have a closer game against the Wildcats.
In the first quarter, Carroll had a less than desirable start as they turned over the ball six times before they were able to attempt their first shot in the game. The Wildcats used that to get out 17-2 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers were able to return the favor in the second quarter with a much better performance. Camryn Schable led the Tigers with five points, which included a corner three pointer in the final seconds of the half. Carroll clawed back to outscore the Wildcats 11-2, but were still down 19-13.
Carroll continued to have good success scoring in the second half, but Carlisle was slightly better in both of the final quarters. The Tigers were within three points of tying up the Carlisle lead, but it was the Wildcats who ended the third quarter with a 12-4 run to extend their lead to 33-22. Both teams kept their momentum up into the fourth quarter with the Wildcats once again getting the better of the Tigers. Carroll’s slow start in the first quarter cost them late in this game as they’d score 11 points in the final eight minutes, but would fall 48-33 in the end.
Individually for Carroll, Camryn Schable had a solid night with 10 points and eight rebounds while Josie Ayala recorded nine points and three rebounds. The Tigers fall to 5-5 overall on the season and 2-5 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll will return from the weekend break to take on ADM at home on Tuesday, January 11th.

The Kuemper Knights fell to 0-2 on the week as they took on Atlantic at their home court Friday night.
The Knights had a fairly good start to their night as they’d keep up with the Trojans only down by four points at 15-11 going into the second quarter. Kuemper’s luck scoring-wise started to run out in the second quarter as they were only able to put up four points in total as the Trojans extended their lead further to 25-15 at halftime. Frannie Glynn had a solid night for the Knights with 11 points and eight rebounds, as did Akuet Malek who recorded eight points, seven rebounds, and a team high eight blocks.
Atlantic continued to bring pressure with their offensive scoring as Kuemper struggled further into the third quarter. The Knights were outscored 18-4 in the third and were down 43-19. Kuemper’s night ended with another rough fourth quarter as the Trojans outperformed the Knights 14-5 and came away with a 57-24 victory at Kuemper. The Knights will fall to 3-8 overall on the season and 2-5 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference. Kuemper’s final game of the week will see them traveling to take on the East Sac Raiders on Saturday, January 8th. Jeff Blankman will be broadcasting that game on KICK 106.7 beginning around 5:50.

Coon Rapids Bayard never trailed, holding off a couple Wildcats rallies before pulling away down the stretch for their fifit win of the season. Breeley Clayburg put the Crusaders up 2-0, Lydia Hofbauer added a pair of buckets, building the lead to 6-0. Glidden Ralston adjusted to the Crusaders defense, finding Paige Klocke inside and her and Tiela Janssen scored to cut the deficit to 6-4. Brynn Bass then took over with a 5-0 run and Coon Rapids Bayard went up 19-7 on a Megan Gray three. Glidden Ralston didn’t go away charging back, Paige Klocke found Tiela Janssen and then scored a bucket to make it 22-18. Lydia Hofbauer had a nifty pass to Miranda McClellan to extend the Coon Rapids Bayard lead to 24-18. After a Klocke three-point play, making it 26-21, McClellan scored again followed by a three from Brynn Bass, a bucket from Lydia Hofbauer and a Breeley Clayburg rebound and basket. The Crusaders run put them ahead 35-22 late in the 3rd quarter. Glidden Ralston pulled within 10 but never got any closer as the lead grew to 17.
Brynn Bass led the Crusaders with 19 points, Breeley Clayburg added 11 rebounds. Miranda McClellan had an outstanding game with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Lydia Hofbauer finished with 8 points and Megan Gray had two big threes to finish with 6 points.
Paige Klocke played hard all game, battling inside for the Wildcats, finishing with a team high 19 points and 14 rebounds. Tiela Janssen got the jumper to fall in the 2nd half, finishing with 16 points on three-threes. Summer Toms added 6 rebounds off the bench.
The win improves Coon Rapids Bayard to 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They play at Woodward Granger on Thursday. The Wildcats fall to 3-5 overall and 2-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference. The Wildcats are off until next Friday when they host Exira-EHK.

The Audubon Wheelers finished their week going 2-1 as they picked up a strong Western Iowa Conference win over IKM-Manning Friday night.
The Wolves, a game removed from their strong win over Tri-Center, kept up well with Audubon early in the contest. The Wolves got on a run that got them up 10-5 in the first quarter, but the Wheelers eventually cut down that lead to 12-11 and took the lead by the end of the quarter at 17-14. The Wolves had issues in the second quarter grabbing buckets as Audubon used that to their advantage. The Wheelers went on a 14-5 run that gave them a big 31-19 lead heading into halftime. The Wolves had Bianca Cadwell lead the charge as she got herself a double double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. The biggest scorer of the night was Audubon’s Audrey Jensen who managed to drain 21 points for the Wheelers. The Wheelers also had a player grab a double-double, that being Aleah Hermansen who had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Audubon had another double-digit scoring quarter in the third while IKM-Manning was able to keep up a bit better with the Wheelers. Audubon’s lead out of the third quarter was at 44-26. The Wolves were able to match their intensity from the first quarter in the final eight minutes of the game with a 14-point performance which matched Audubon’s points in the final quarter. With matching scores, the Wheelers were able to hold on to win 58-40 and improve to 7-4 on the season and 3-2 in the WIC. IKM-Manning will fall to 3-7 overall on the season and 3-5 in the WIC.
Audubon will start off their week of competition next week with a road game at AHSTW on Monday, January 10th. IKM-Manning is on the road on Tuesday, January 11th with a game against Underwood.

The South Central Calhoun Titans had two players with double digit point nights but were unable to knock off the top team in the Twin Lakes Conference Storm Lake St Mary’s Friday night.
The Titans started off the contest with a slow start scoring wise as the Panthers took the first quarter 14-9. Quarter two was much better for the Titans as they started to claw away at the Storm Lake St Mary’s lead. The duo of Riley Batta and Kylee Schleisman was dynamic once again as both accounted for 23 of the total points for the Titans with Batta grabbing 11 points and seven rebounds and Schleisman with 12 points and a team high five steals. South Central Calhoun cut down the Panther led to 20-19.
The Panthers grabbed the momentum back in the third quarter as they outperformed the Titans 14-9 to extend their lead to 34-28. Both teams had a lack-luster scoring fourth quarter, which was not so great news for the Titans as the Panthers were able to hold on and give South Central Calhoun their second loss of the season with a final score of 42-37. The Titans will fall to 9-2 overall on the season and 2-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. South Central Calhoun will return from the weekend with a road game against Humboldt on Tuesday, January 11th.

The East Sac Raiders had a rough second and third quarter in their game against Emmetsburg, but they eventually brought back the game late in a valiant effort, despite losing to the E-Hawks Friday night.
The Raiders got off to a good start in the first quarter as they’d get up 12-8. The E-Hawks switched the momentum to their favor as they dominated the second quarter by a score of 16-9 and took the lead at halftime at 24-21. Mary Bontrager led the Raiders in the first half with six points. Both teams started off the second half with a slow start, but the Raiders kept the game close trailing by a point at 30-29. The Raiders had their best quarter in the final eight minutes of the game, putting up 15 points, but were unable to bounce back from their rough second quarter performance and fell 44-40 against Emmetsburg.
Individually for the Raiders, Mary Bontrager led the team with 12 points and also had six rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Meredith Brown also had a solid night with eight points and 10 rebounds. The Raiders wrap up their week of competition with a home game on Saturday, January 8th against Kuemper. The Ar-We-Va Rockets fought valiantly but fell to a strong Rolling Conference foe Boyer Valley on Friday night.
The Rockets didn’t get off to the start they wanted as they’d fall behind 18-3 after the first quarter concluded. Ar-We-Va Head Coach Jeremy Smith says in that slow first quarter the Rockets didn’t handle the Bulldog’s press well but did gain momentum and energy in the later parts of the game. The Rockets were able to come alive in the second quarter with a big scoring effort, only being outscored by two points at 15-13. Despite a big quarter, the Rockets had plenty of work to do in the second half as they trailed 33-16.
Boyer Valley’s offense exploded in the third quarter as Ar-We-Va tried to keep pace with them. The Bulldogs finished the quarter with 22 while the Rockets still recorded double digit points with 13 as they trailed 55-29. The fourth quarter was another close quarter between both teams with the Rockets only scoring five less points than Boyer Valley, but with the big first and third quarters from Boyer Valley, the Bulldogs grabbed a win over Ar-We-Va by a final score of 69-37. Maggie Ragaller and Delaney Schurke were a scoring duo for the Rockets as they recorded 20 of the Rockets 37 points, both with 10 each in this game. Meanwhile, Timerblen Koch was one point away from getting a double double as she had nine points and 10 rebounds.
The Rockets have a lengthy break until their next game, which is scheduled for Thursday, January 13th against non-conference opponent LoMa.
