Kuemper held on after missing free throws down the stretch to pick up a huge conference win at home on Friday. The Knights jumped out to a 7-0 lead but foul trouble slowed the offense down and Atlantic took a 13-12 lead after the 1st quarter. The defense clamped down in the 2nd quarter and Kuemper edged back in front by 2 at half. The game remained tight the rest of the way with DJ Vonnahme and Dawson Gifford leading the Knights offense.
The Knights struggled from deep and at the free throw line, hitting 3-12 from three and 8-19 from the free throw line. The defense held Atlantic to 38.6% from the field, only allowing 10 free throw attempts.
DJ Vonnahme just missed a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Dawson Gifford scored 10 points and dished out 7 assists while garnering 3 steals. Carson Kanne and Isaac Evans each had 7 points.
The win improves Kuemper to 5-6 overall and 4-2 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. The Knights head to East Sac on Saturday.

Carroll had one of their best performances of the year getting out to a great start, leading 23-6 after the 1st quarter. The Tigers defense was dominant, leading to good opportunities on offense. Carlisle was held to 14 points in the 1st half, allowing Carroll to get more guys playing time in the 2nd half. They didn’t execute as well on offense in the 3rd quarter and Carlisle got warm, after missing a lot of shots in the 1st half they connected in the 3rd, outscoring the Tigers 17-10. Carroll settled back in during the 4th quarter and reestablished control.
Kaleb Booth had a big game with 27 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Tanner Gotto and Nick Macke gave the Tigers two more players in double figures with 10 points each.
The win improved Carroll to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll takes a three game winning streak into Tuesday’s home game with ADM.

Caden Klocke put Glidden Ralston up 3-0 but Coon Rapids Bayard played one of their best defense games of the season the rest of the way, holding the Wildcats to single digits in all four quarters and winning by 27 at a place that has given them trouble in years past. Gabe Obert put the Crusaders on the board and Lance Clayburg found Tanner Oswald for a three moments later to put them up 5-3. They led 13-8 after the 1st quarter, then opened it up in the 2nd quarter with a 16-0 run to start the quarter. Lance Clayburg started it off with three straight buckets, Easton Hays added a pair of points and Tanner Oswald hit a three, making 25-8. Before the run was over Coon Rapids Bayard led 29-8.
Glidden Ralston tried to establish Caden Smith inside but the Crusaders took that away, forcing them to work the ball on the perimeter. Cale Klocke finished with four-threes and Ethan Olberding added one but the Wildcats couldn’t establish an inside game. Meanwhile the Crusaders defense was creating havoc, leading to easy buckets. The Crusaders finished with 18 steals to 3 for Glidden Ralston. Easton Hays, Lance Clayburg, Gabe Obert and Tanner Oswald all found passing lanes and were able to get out to easy buckets. Oswald found Obert on a back door cut in the 2nd half for a nifty dunk.
Coon Rapids Bayard finished with four players in double figures with Tanner Oswald leading the way with 15 points, Lance Clayburg had 11 points along with 8 rebounds and 5 steals. Gabe Obert added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals and Easton Hays had 10 points and 4 steals.
Cale Klocke led the Wildcats with 14 points. Ethan Olberding scored 5 points but pulled down 10 rebounds. Caden Smith added 6 rebounds. The Wildcats went 0-6 from the free throw line.
Coon Rapids Bayard moves to 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They host Woodward Academy on Monday. Glidden Ralston falls to 2-7 overall and 0-6 in the Rolling Valley. They will host Exira-EHK on Friday.

Ar-We-Va tried to rally in the 2nd half after a slow start put them behind by 18 at half. The Rockets executed better on offense in the 2nd half and played matched up well over the final 20 minutes of so after the Bulldogs cooled off. They came out hot to start the game, scoring 20 points in the 1st quarter. The Bulldogs finished the game hitting 45.1% from the field but were 10-18 from three. Ar-We-Va held them to 7 points in the 4th quarter.
Cooper Kock has come on strong this week, finishing with a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Braeden Kirsch added 8 points and 11 rebounds, Will Ragaller scored 9 points.
The loss drops the Rockets to 2-8 overall and 1-7 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They step out of conference next week, heading to LoMa on Thursday.

East Sac came out physical and aggressive. They were able to dominate the boards and won hustle plays. Though they trailed by one after the 1st quarter, they appeared to be in control of the game. They executed on offense better in the 2nd quarter and kept pounding the ball inside, getting to the free throw line.
As well as the offense played over the final three quarters the defense might have been better. They gave up just 5 points in each of the last three quarters. Their dominance of the glass limited the E-Hawks chances on offense. The Raiders did a nice job taking care of the ball, finishing with only 11 turnovers.
Luke Wright and Tyler Schmitt owned the inside with Wright finishing with 16 points, 7 rebounds and Schmitt with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Cale Niehaus added 6 rebounds.
The win improved the Raiders to 3-6 overall and 2-2 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They host Kuemper on Saturday night.

The night after a back and forth battle with Tri-Center, the IKM-Manning Wolves bounced back to grab a strong Western Iowa Conference win over Audubon on Friday night.
It was the Wheelers who got off to a good start against the Wolves as they’d get out to a 14-9 lead after the first quarter ended. The Wheelers came off a good performance against Ar-We-Va the night prior with two guys scoring double digit points. In the second quarter, the Wheelers found themselves going point for point against the Wolves as IKM-Manning’s offense started to gain momentum, but were still behind 24-19 at halftime. Ross Kusel and Nolan Ramsey had solid nights for the wolves as they accounted for 30 of the Wolves points.
IKM-Manning’s offense came alive in the second half of the game, starting in the third quarter. The Wolves were able to come back and outperform the Wheelers 10-5 and tie up the ball game at 29 each going into the final eight minutes of the contest. Audubon Head Coach Coleman Mullenix says his guys played fine and got good looks, but in the second half, struggled to score. The Wolves saved their best performance for the fourth quarter as they’d score 20 plus points to give no doubt who was in the lead. IKM-Manning’s 24 point fourth quarter performances netted them their third win of the season as they got past Audubon 53-40.
Individually for the Wolves, Kusel ended with a game high 18 points while recording seven rebounds. Amos Rasmussen had a good night with nine points, four rebounds, and two assists. For Audubon, Jackson Deist led the Wheelers with 10 points and Collin Bauer and Edward Miller both banked in eight points. The Wolves will improve to 3-7 overall on the season and 2-6 in the Western Iowa Conference as the Wheelers fall to 4-6 overall on the season and 3-4 in the conference.
IKM-Manning’s lone game next week will see them on the road at Underwood on Tuesday January 11th. The Wheelers have a four game week which starts on Monday, January 10th with a road game against AHSTW.
