Carroll withstood a slow start to beat Boone, improving to 5-4 overall and 2-4 in the Raccoon River Conference. The Tigers struggled with Boone full court pressure, allowing the Toreadors to build an 8-3 lead. Carroll rallied to pull within 10-9 but trailed 14-11 after the 1st quarter. Boone extended the lead to 17-11 to start the 2nd quarter but Carroll responded with a 13-0 run to take charge. The game sat at a standstill for a couple minutes with Carroll trailing 17-15. They had several possessions with a chance to tie or take the lead but weren’t able to until Josie Ayala banked in a shot in the post, drawing a foul. She hit the free throw and Carroll led 18-17. It was their first lead since Hannah Jorgensen found Katelyn Aden off the opening tip for a layup. Madison Tunning found Camryn Schable for a three on their next possession and Carroll was up 21-17. Ava Gross kept the run going with a bucket off a nice cut and pass from Josie Ayala. The Tigers were up 24-20 at half.
Neither team could get their offense going in the 3rd quarter as Carroll extended their lead to 28-22 heading to the 4th quarter. It was a slow start in the 4th quarter, but Carroll started to edge away, and Addison Klocke found Madison Tunning for a three and Carroll was up 11. Boone answered with a 9-0 run to pull within 33-31 but Hannah Jorgensen found Madison Tunning for another three and Carroll regained control. Jorgensen added a pair of free throws and Carroll led 38-32 late.
Camryn Schable led the Tigers with 8 points along with 6 rebounds, Ava Gross added 7 points and 7 rebounds. Josie Ayala left the game late but had 11 rebounds. Addison Klocke added 6 rebounds.
The Tigers head on the road Friday at Carlisle.

The Kuemper Knights had a difficult time getting past the aggressive offense and strong defense of Denison Schleswig on Tuesday night as the Monarchs got the regular season sweep of the Knights.
In the first quarter, the Knights handled the Monarchs nicely with their offensive attack. While Kuemper gave up some costly turnovers, they made up for it with points and stayed close with the Monarchs trailing 13-9. Aubrey Heuton had a big three pointer that gave the Knights a good boost of momentum. Kuemper’s turnover troubles continued into the second quarter and their defense allowed some Monarchs to slip past their defensive wall. Catherine Mayhall kept the Knights in the game with a pair of three pointers as they trailed 26-19 at halftime.
Free throws started to play a part for Denison-Schleswig as Kuemper got in some foul trouble and still allowed too many turnovers. The Knights started off the quarter by cutting down the Monarch lead by as much as four points but got behind as Denison-Schleswig got the momentum back. Mayhall was the lone Kuemper player who scored points in the third, with seven in total. The Monarch in the third quarter went four for eight from the free throw line that gave them the 39-26 lead going into the fourth quarter. Denison Schleswig’s biggest advantage in this game was their quick scoring and ability to make fouls happen inside the paint. Once more the Monarchs went five of 10 from the free throw line while Kuemper only made three trips to the charity stripe, going one of five. While Kuemper had good moments in this game, they would eventually fall to Denison-Schleswig 54-33.
Mayhall ended the game with a solid 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Frannie Glynn also had a solid performance with six points and seven rebounds, as did Aubrey Heuton with five points and five rebounds. The Knights will fall to 3-7 overall on the season and 2-4 in the Hawkeye 10 Conference. The Knights continue their busy week with a home game against Atlantic on Friday, January 7th.

The South Central Calhoun Titans picked up where they left off from the first half of the season in the second half with a strong win over OABCIG on Tuesday night.
The Falcons in the first quarter were able to keep pace with the Titans as South Central Calhoun had a two-point lead at 13-11 going into the second quarter. Titans Head Coach Curt Batta says his girls had some defensive lapses which allowed some easy buckets in transitions from the Falcons. Despite the slow start, the Titans got to work in the second quarter and doubled the points the Falcons scored at 16-8. This was thanks to the Titans getting focused on good defensive pressure according to Coach Batta, but with some aspects of the game left to be desired. The Titans took a 27-21 lead into halftime.
Starting off the second half South Central Calhoun shut down the OABCIG offense and kept them to two points total in the third quarter. Coach Batta says the defensive intensity was much better in the second half and his girls started to identify who the scorers and shooters were in this game. Riley Batta’s performance included 20 points and nine rebounds, aided by Kylee Schleisman’s 14-point game. The Titans rounded out the third quarter performance with another solid 13-7 performance in the fourth quarter to round out a solid night of basketball with a 56-30 win over OABCIG.
The Titans will improve to 9-1 overall on the season and 2-1 in the Twin Lakes Conference. South Central Calhoun will wrap up their week of competition with a chance to knock off the top team in their conference, Storm Lake St. Mary’s on the road on Friday, January 7th.

Coon Rapids Bayard came back from the holiday break with a victory to get back to .500 as they took on Boyer Valley with struggles throughout the game Tuesday night.
The Crusaders and Bulldogs didn’t get their engines started right away as the Crusaders did marginally better in the first quarter at 5-2. The second quarter was where both teams picked up the pace significantly. The Crusaders offense picked up steam with Brynn Bass’ offensive scoring while being double teamed. The Crusaders were able to escape the first half with a close 18-17 lead. Crusaders Head Coach Kaitlyn McAlister says turnovers and rebounding were the issues her team had in the first half. A lot of passes according to McAlister went through her players hands, but they still held the lead regardless.
The second half went a bit better for the Crusaders as they’d hold the scoring advantage at 15-7 and further extend their lead. Coach McAlister says they took care of the ball, ran their offense well, and eliminated Boyer Valley’s offensive boards to take the 33-24 lead. Another big-time player for the Crusaders in this game was Breeley Clayburg who was able to grab 19 rebounds, almost a school record. Boyer Valley did start to climb out of their scoring deficit a bit in the fourth quarter and gave Coon Rapids Bayard a hard time. The Bulldogs closed out their game with a 12-point performance to get close to the Crusader lead but was unable to take it. Coon Rapids Bayard, with that late game comeback from Boyer Valley, was able to hold on and come away with the 39-36 victory.
The Crusaders will improve to 4-4 overall on the season and 4-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference. Coon Rapids Bayard rounds out their week of competition with a road game at Glidden Ralston on Friday, January 7th.

The Audubon Wheelers returned from the holiday break to face off against Stanton where they had a tough match against the Stanton Viqueens Tuesday night.
The Wheelers were able to contain the Viqueens in the first quarter with a strong eight-point performance to trail by three points at 11-8. The second quarter for Audubon was a bit rough as they were only able to put up two points compared to Stanton’s 16, getting them in a big 27-10 hole at halftime. Jaci Christensen and Aleah Hermansen were the heroes for Audubon in this game, getting them going in the third quarter with a roaring 21-point quarter. Stanton’s offense was still able to keep up with the new momentum shift for Audubon as they put up 16 points and kept their lead over Audubon at 43-31. The Viqueens closed out the night with another quarter of outscoring the Wheelers, this time at 14-9, taking advantage of their big second quarter to come away with the 57-40 victory. The Wheelers will fall to 5-4 overall on the season and 2-2 in the Western Iowa Conference. Audubon continues their week of action with a road game in Westside against the Ar-We-Va Rockets on Thursday, January 6th.

Glidden Ralston in their return from the holiday break with a tough match against CAM-Anita where the Cougars got the better of the Wildcats Tuesday night.
Both teams were a bit slow to start off as Glidden Ralston held the slight advantage after the first quarter at 5-4. CAM-Anita from that point on was able to score double-digit points in each quarter, starting with a 19-5 second quarter that gave them the 23-10 lead at halftime. While Glidden Ralston’s biggest quarter was in the third, they had some strong performances, notably Tiela Janssen who went off and grabbed 13 points in this game. The Wildcats were able to keep close pace with the Cougars, although they were outscored 17-11 and trialed 40-21 going into the fourth quarter. CAM-Anita had their biggest quarter of the night in the fourth as they closed out a strong three-quarter stretch to take a win from Glidden Ralston at 61-25 with a 21-point performance in the final eight minutes of play.
The Wildcats will fall to 3-4 overall on the season and 2-3 in the Rolling Valley Conference. They will finish out their week of competition with a home game against Coon Rapids Bayard on Friday, January 7th.
