Bishop Heelan at Kuemper

Bishop Heelan 58

Kuemper 32

The Kuemper Knights held the current number one ranked 4A team Bishop Heelan under 60 points as the Knights got some good looks and notes for the next game in their loss Tuesday night.

Bishop Heelan got off to a good start in the first quarter, but Kuemper was right there with them for a good portion of the quarter. Catherine Mayhall got her night started with a three pointer and Lauren Boell rebounded well and got on the board with a bucket. The Crusaders with their fast offensive movement was able to attack the basket well enough to get them up 15-5 after the first quarter. In this game, both teams would struggle to score consistently, so the biggest part of this game was defense. Kuemper was able to bounce back some in the second quarter as they held the Crusaders to nine points while they scored seven. Mayhall was another big aid in the second quarter with four points added to her statline and Aubrey Heuton who drained a three pointer. The Crusaders held on to their lead of 24-12 going into halftime.

Bishop Heelan picked up right where they left off with their defense that was causing turnovers and stealing the ball in passing lanes while Kuemper had a rough scoring quarter in the third. Mayhall and Frannie Glynn accounted for the four points scored in the third quarter. Bishop Heelan extended their lead to 39-16 going into the fourth quarter. Kuemper had their best quarter in the final eight minutes of play as they were able to keep Bishop Heelan from scoring 60 on them. Mayhall exploded in the fourth quarter with two three-pointers and eight points in that quarter alone, 17 in total on the night, while the intensity for Kuemper picked up a good amount. Bishop Heelan, on the other hand, drained five three pointers that gave them a strong finish to the contest. The Crusaders came away with the 58-32 win over Kuemper.

Kuemper will fall to 3-4 overall on the season. The Knights have one final game before the holiday break as they take on St. Albert on Tuesday, December 21st. Jeff Blankman will be broadcasting that game on 93.7 KKRL beginning around 5:50.
