Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Audubon, Ar-We-Va Boys Both Fall on Thursday

A low scoring 2nd quarter put the Rockets in a hole they weren’t able to climb out of as they fall to 1-4 on the season. Rockets played well in the 1st quarter and grabbed a 3-2 lead on a bucket by Conner Kirsch. Westwood answered with a three from Brody Muenchrath to put the Rebels up 5-3. Ar-We-Va would never lead again. They trailed 11-5 midway through the 1st quarter but rallied to end the quarter down 13-10. Westwood opened the 2nd quarter on a 15-0 run before Ar-We-Va scored late in the quarter. The Rockets 2 points 2nd quarter put them down 28-12 at half. They trailed most of the 2nd half but around 20 points. They fell down by as many as 24 in the 3rd quarter but cut the deficit to 17 but never pulled any closer. Westwood finished 19-29 from the free throw line and Ar-We-Va was 12-21 as there were 42 fouls called in a very physical game.

Cooper Kock fouled out but still led the Rockets with 15 points and 4 steals. Emmett Neumann had his best game with a nice double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. He added a team high 2 assists as well. Braeden Kirsch added 5 rebounds and a pair of assists.

The loss drops Ar-We-Va to 1-4 on the season as they prepare to head to Coon Rapids Bayard on Friday.

Audubon At Boyer Valley

Audubon had tw1o players in double figures but gave up a big 3rd quarter to Boyer Valley as the Bulldogs pulled away for the win. The Wheelers came out sharp offensively, trailing 16-15 after the 1st quarter. Audubon prides itself on defense and shined in the 2nd quarter, holding the Bulldogs to 6 points. The Wheeler offense struggled in the 2nd quarter as well but they tied the game at 22 heading to  halftime. The game turned in the 3rd when Boyer Valley scored 20 points to take a 9 point lead into the 4th.

Gavin Smith led a balanced Wheelers attack with 11 points and Edward Miller added 10 points. Jackson Deist finished with 7 points and Carson Bauer had 6.

The loss drops the Wheelers to 2-4 on the season. They travel to Underwood on Friday with a chance to move into the hunt for 2nd place in the Western Iowa Conference. The Wheelers are 2-2 in the WIC and a game behind Underwood who is 3-1 in the WIC and 4-1 overall.
