Kuemper at Red Oak
Kuemper 56
Red Oak 28
Kuemper picked up their first win of the season as they got past Red Oak Monday night.
The Knights got to work right out of the gate as they dominated the first quarter 15-2. The Knights further extended their strong lead in the second quarter, but not without some pushback from Red Oak. The Knights still found ways to outscore the Tigers 18-11 and take the 33-13 lead at halftime. Frannie Glynn had a great first half as she scored 12 of her 14 points in that half alone and all together added nine rebounds, three blocks, and four steals to her statline. Catherine Mayhall and Akuet Malek both had strong scoring performances as they both added 12 points and seven rebounds to the Kuemper score. Malek also had a double-double on the night with 12 points and 11 blocks.
Kuemper did miss opportunities to score layups, but it didn’t cause them to get behind in the second half. The Knights took it to Red Oak in the third quarter, outperforming the Tigers again at 16-4 and leading 49-17 going into the fourth quarter. In the final eight minutes of the game, Kuemper Head Coach Tyler Tryon says they started to run out the clock early in the quarter in order to come away with the 56-28 victory. Coach Tryon added that the Knight’s defense was able to create a lot of turnovers that led to a bunch of run outs, that Akuet Malek held down the middle, and the girls ran the floor well and played hard all game long.
The Knights improve to 1-4 overall on the season. Kuemper will be on the road on Tuesday, December 14th when they take on Atlantic.
