Harlan At Kuemper
Harlan 64
Kuemper 41
Harlan opened the game with a 12-0 run and never allowed Kuemper to get back into the ball game. Jacob Birch hit a three to make it 10-0 and finished with a game high 28 points, with 20 of them in the 1st half. Kuemper settled in during the 2nd quarter, scoring 13 points and got a nice pass from Dawson Gifford to Michael Kasperbauer for a basket to pull within 13. Kasperbauer came off the bench with some energy scoring 9 points in the 1st half. Kuemper trailed 41-19 at half, before starting the 2nd half with a young group on the floor. They fell behind by as many as 26 but did make a couple runs but weren’t able to get the lead under 20.

Foul trouble play a role in that as Dawson Gifford, Isaac Evans and Michael Kasperbauer all battled foul trouble in the 1st half and Evan Adams and DJ Vonnahme were in foul trouble in the 2nd half. Harlan used their length and athleticism to control the boards getting 11 offensive rebounds. The Cyclones nearly made as many free throws as Kuemper attempted.

North Polk At Carroll
North Polk 60
Carroll 52
The Carroll Tigers had a back and forth battle with a defensively strong North Polk team that took them to their limits and ended up walking away with a victory Tuesday night.
The first quarter was a back and forth between the Comets and Tigers, with North Polk holding a slight lead in the end at 14-13. Kaleb Booth led the team in the quarter with six points, including a pair of free throws, while Gus Collison drained a three pointer. The second quarter was rough for the Tigers as North Polk’s defense started to take effect. The pressure from the Comets caused the Tigers to rethink how they were going to attack the rim and create passing lanes. North Polk used this advantage to drain six three-pointers to take the lead at 34-26 at halftime. Nick Macke was able to grab a pair of three-pointers himself and Tanner Gotto got a three as well, but it wasn’t enough to stop the North Polk defense from stepping up and causing disruptions.
In the third quarter the Tigers had their worst shooting quarter, only able to account for seven points while the Comets racked up another 16. Gus Collison’s three was the highlight of the quarter along with Kaleb Booth adding to his stat line with four points in the quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers were able to get close to the North Polk lead thanks to a pair of threes from Gus Collison that cut down the Comet lead to 56-51. Despite the big moment, North Polk was able to cause more turnovers and stop the Tigers from going on a run late in the quarter and closed out the game with the 60-52 win.
Individually for the Tigers, Kaleb Booth recorded 15 points, six rebounds, and seven assists, Ethan Langeling had 11 points and a steal, and Gus Collison’s four three-pointers netted him 12 points.
