Both teams came out executing well on offense as the lead changed six times in the first few minutes of the game. Carroll drew a foul for the first points of the game, hitting a free throw to lead 1-0. Kuemper scored next to lead 2-1. The game seesawed back and forth until Shay Sinnard put the Tigers up for good with a 3 from the left side, putting Carroll up 8-6. Carroll scored 8 straight, leading 13-6 late in the 1st quarter. They would slowly pull away, leading by 31 late in the 3rd quarter. Kuemper cut into the deficit in the 4th quarter, pulling within 63-39. Carroll had five players finish in double figures.

Carroll’s defense was sharp in the 1st half, holding Kuemper to 19 points in the 1st half, building a 35-19 lead. Their full-court pressure created turnovers and led to easy baskets. Carroll finished with 16 steals. Hannah Jorgensen, Shay Sinnard and Katelyn Aden did a nice job slowing down Catherine Mayhall, holding her to 4 points in the 1st half. Frannie Glynn and Kaci Peter work on the glass helped the Knights hang close. Glynn scored 6 of her 9 points in the 1st half while Peter came off the bench and had 5 rebounds in the 1st half. Carroll led 19-12 after the 1st quarter, extending the lead to 35-19 at half.
Carroll created early turnovers in the 3rd quarter as Shay Sinnard got rolling on both ends of the floor. Sinnard finished with a team high 14 points and added 4 steals. H30. Her efforts helped Carroll extend the lead to 61-30. Freshman Katelyn Aden also had a big 2nd half for the Tigers, finishing with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 blocks. Catherine Mayhall came on for Kuemper in the 2nd half scoring 11 of her 15 points in the half. She added 6 rebounds and 6 steals. Kora Thomsen and Aubrey Hueton had good 2nd halves for Kuemper.
The win improves Carroll to 2-0 as they travel to Gilbert for their Raccoon River Conference opener on Friday. Kuemper falls to 0-2 and will open the Hawkeye 10 Conference Saturday at home against Denison Schleswig.

The Glidden Ralston Wildcats got their 2021-2022 season off to a great start as they cruised past Ar-We-Va Tuesday night.
The first quarter was a low scoring affair as the Rockets were able to score eight points compared to Glidden Ralston’s four. A big factor for the low score was both teams getting in quick foul trouble in the first half. Glidden Ralston got into a rhythm in the second quarter as they outscored Ar-We-Va 13-6, thanks in part to Paige Klocke who scored eight points in that quarter alone. The Wildcats took a 17-14 lead into the halftime break.
The Wildcats had their strongest performance in the third quarter, highlighted by Tiela Janssen. She scored a field goal and went 6 of 10 from the free throw line to score eight points in that quarter. Ar-We-Va’s lone score of that quarter came from Timberlen Koch who drained two free throws. The fourth quarter was the closest quarter of the whole game, with Ar-We-Va getting the slight edge over Glidden Ralston at 11-10. The Rockets were able to find some success from beyond the arc with Kallie Bromert and Kora Obrecht each sinking a three pointer. Most of Glidden Ralston’s points were thanks to free throws, with Klocke going 3-4 in free throws in the fourth quarter. After the dust settled, it was Glidden Ralston who stood victorious by a final score of 43-27.
Individually for Glidden Ralston, Tiela Janssen had a strong 18 points performance, along with Paige Klocke’s double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Elizabeth Lloyd also had a strong rebounding night as she grabbed 11. For the Rockets, Jamie Hausman recorded six points and six rebounds, Maggie Ragaller had six points, five rebounds, and two assists, and Timberlen Koch recorded five points, seven rebounds, and three steals.

The Audubon Wheelers got their season and conference schedule off to a dominant start as they went head-to-head with Missouri Valley Tuesday night.
The Wheelers got their dominant game off to a strong start as they outpaced the Lady Reds 22-4 in the first quarter. Audubon matched that performance with a 20-10 second quarter that gave them the 42-14 lead going into halftime. The Wheelers’ strength was on their offensive scoring, led by Aleah Hermansen who scored 18 points on the night. Jaci Christensen had a great night as well, scoring 15 points and Kate Tessman grabbed 11 points, the third Wheeler to score double digit points.
The scoring pace for Audubon slowed down in the second half with the Wheelers still outperforming Missouri Valley 14-7 and extending their lead to 56-21. The final quarter of the game was the lowest scoring quarter with Audubon coming out on top 8-4 over the Lady Reds and taking home the dominant 64-25 win. The Wheelers get their 2021-2022 season off to a 1-0 start.
Audubon will stay home for Friday’s match up as they play host to Tri Center.

South Central Calhoun continued their early winning ways as they got past South Hamilton Tuesday night to advance to 2-0 on the season.
In the first half, both teams performed closely with each other, with the Titans leading 10-5 after the first quarter and South Hamilton taking the lead at 20-17 when halftime rolled around. South Central Calhoun saw some big performances from their players, including Riley Batta who ended the night with 20 points, nine rebounds, and a block. Kylee Schleisman aided Batta by scoring an additional 18 points along with two rebounds and an assist.
The Titans were able to come alive in the third quarter as they outscored South Hamilton 25-14 to retake the lead and extend it to 42-34. In the final quarter of the game, South Hamilton was able to get the better of South Central Calhoun by scoring 13 points compared to the Titans’ 11. But, the big third quarter helped the Titans hold off the Hawks as they’d improve to 2-0, defeating South Hamilton 53-47.
The Titans are on the road for their next game, which will be at East Sac on Friday, December 3rd. Jeff Blankman will be on the broadcast for that game on Kick 106.7 with pre-game coverage beginning around 6 PM.

East Sac played a close game all night Tuesday against Woodbury Central, but ultimately fell short of claiming victory.
The Raiders and Wildcats were neck and neck in the first half, with the Wildcats holding the slight edge at 10-9 after the first quarter and 23-19 at halftime. East Sac’s Mary Bontrager shined in this game where she went on to score 21 points along with nabbing nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal. She was aided by Meredith Brown who led the team with 10 rebounds.
The Raiders were able to take over the lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 12-5 and taking the 31-28 lead going into the fourth quarter. Just like the first half, the fourth quarter was another close eight minutes of gameplay. The Wildcats finished out the fourth quarter by taking over the lead and holding on to a slight lead to victory as Woodbury Central got past East Sac 45-42. As a team, the Raiders recorded a 53% field goal percentage, went 5/15 from the free throw line, and 35% from the three point. East Sac will fall to 0-2 overall on the season.

Coon Rapids Bayard had a tough night Tuesday where they faced off against Stanton in a losing effort.
While the final score says differently, most of this contest was rather close. Stanton held on to a close 9-7 lead heading into the second quarter. In the second quarter, Stanton did not let up as they outpaced the Crusaders 20-7 to take the 29-14 lead into halftime. Despite a tough outcome, Coon Rapids Bayard showed promise throughout with a 14 point performance from Brynn Bass along with two rebounds, four assists, and two steals, and Breeley Clayburg with a 14 rebound performance.
The third quarter was much like the first half, another close faceoff between the Crusaders and Viqueens, as Stanton held the 9-8 advantage and extended their lead to 38-22. The final quarter of play was close yet again, determined by three points as Stanton once again outperformed the Crusaders 15-12 to take home the 53-35 victory. The Crusaders will fall to 0-1 overall on the season.

Paton Churdan’s season opener against Boyer Valley was a rough one as the Bulldogs cruised past the Rockets to claim victory over their Rolling Valley Conference foe.
The first quarter was the closest quarter of the entire night, with the Bulldogs taking control early. Boyer Valley’s scoring efforts netted them 28 points compared to the Rockets 12. The Bulldogs continued their strong performance with another big scoring quarter in the second. While the Rockets were able to score double digit points, the Bulldogs pushed forward to take a 49-22 lead into halftime. Despite the large scoring outcome for Boyer Valley, Carmyn Paup was able to close out the night with a double double with 11 points and 10 rebounds along with three assists and six steals. Hannah Behrens also had a strong offensive night, scoring 13 points along with four rebounds and two steals.
Boyer Valley continued their scoring reign with another big outcome in the third quarter. The Bulldogs outpaced the Rockets 24-6 and took a large 73-28 lead. The final quarter of the contest was another strong showing for Boyer Valley as they close out the game going 12-0 and taking home the 85-28 victory over Paton Churdan. The Rockets will fall to 0-1 to start off their season.

IKM-Manning’s season opener was a tough one against Underwood where the Eagles got the better of the Wolves.
IKM-Manning was staying close to Underwood’s first quarter lead, as the Eagles escaped the first quarter with a 20-11 lead. They extended that lead even further and caused the Wolves to slow down offensively as the Eagles took a 43-15 lead into halftime. The shining star from the Wolves in this game was Bianca Cadwell who ended her night with 12 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
IKM-Manning was able to bounce back from a disappointing second quarter performance and scored a game high 13 points, behind Underwood’s 17 points. The Eagles held on to their lead heading into the fourth quarter at 60-28. The final quarter of this game continued to be in favor of Underwood as the Eagles finished off the Wolves with a 10-2 quarter and walked away with the 70-30 victory. IKM-Manning will start off their season with a record of 0-1.
