Girls Basketball Results Tuesday, November 23rd

Kuemper At Bondurant Farrar

Bondurant Farrar 70

Kuemper 35

In their season opener against Bondurant-Farrar on the road, the Knights had to go on without one of their defensive leaders from last season as they dropped their first game of the 2021-2022 season.

The Knights’ first quarter didn’t start out the way they wanted. The Bluejays got out to a strong 23-6 lead after the first half, with Frannie Glynn leading Kuemper as she hit a three pointer. Without Akuet Malek blocking shots on the defensive end of the ball, the Knights had to find new ways to block shots and play a speedy and aggressive defense. The second quarter was a bit better for the Knights. Bondurant-Farrar ended the first half scoring 45 points while Kuemper had their best quarter of the game, adding 14 points in the second quarter, with Cate Mayhall and Frannie Glynn both leading the team with seven points. The Knights trailed 45-20 going into the second half.

The third quarter was another big quarter for Bondurant Farrar as they increased their lead by scoring 15 points, taking the 60-27 lead over Kuemper. The Knights had some decent looks on defense and kept pressure on, but the Bluejays kept scoring consistently to stay ahead. In the final frame of the contest, the Bluejays and Knights had the closest quarter they had all night. Bondurant Farrar was able to distance themselves and slow down their game as they outscored the Knights 10-8 and walked away with their first win of the year by a final score of 70-35.

Following the Thanksgiving break, the Knights will take on cross town rival (1-0) Carroll on Tuesday, November 30th.

South Central Calhoun had a chance to make it a continuous clock late in the 3rd quarter, leading 41-12 but Storm Lake found some rhythm on offense. The Titans went up 47-16 to start the 4th quarter but Storm Lake started controlling the offensive glass and the Titans turned the ball over, helping the Tornadoes score 15 points in the 4th quarter which was one less than they scored in the first three quarters combined.
