Kuemper dropped a pair of matches to ranked teams on Thursday during a triangular at Sergeant Bluff-Luton. Kuemper played well in a loss to Ankeny Centennial who is ranked 6th in Class 5A. The Knights had chances to win both sets but came up short. The Knights picked up 7 blocks in the match and had 26 digs. They added 4 aces while serving 81.4%. Kenzie Schon hit .294 at the net as the team finished .069.
The Knights hit better at the net against Sergeant Bluff-Luton but weren’t quite as sharp overall. Kuemper finished .074 at the net with Frannie Glynn hitting a team high .222 and Sophie Badding adding a .143. Kuemper finished with 13 digs and 2 blocks. The Knights served better percentage wise at 90.9% to go with 2 aces.
Sophie Badding led Kuemper against Sergeant Bluff-Luton with 5 kills while Kenzie Shon added 4 kills. Avarie Pedelty had a team high 4 digs and Ashlyn Badding added 3 digs to go with 14 assists. Ashlyn Badding and Kenya Prescott each had an ace. Prescott added an ace against Ankeny Centennial as did Kenzie Schon, Kaci Peter and Sophie Badding. Kenya Prescott and Ashlyn Badding shared the team lead with 6 digs each. Avarie Pedelty added 5 digs. Ashlyn Badding dished out 19 assists in the loss with Sophie Badding and Kenzie Schon both having 5 kills. Kamryn Venner added 4 kills.
The losses drop Kuemper to 24-10 on the season as they head into the postseason with a home match next Wednesday against the winner of Monday match between North Union and Emmetsburg.

The Raiders won the Twin Lakes Conference outright with a good win against the team they will meet next Wednesday in the postseason. East Sac didn’t start sharp in sets one and two and found themselves behind in both. They trailed 8-3 in set one and were down 4-0 in set two before adjusting and rolling to wins. Set three was East Sac from the get go as the Warriors tied the set at 5 but never led and East Sac rolled.
Carly Fischer helped get the Raiders going in set one as they were down 8-4, before the Fischer kill. Meredith Brown helped keep the Raiders close cutting the lead to 11-8. East Sac kept chipping away and tied the set at 12 and 14 before getting ahead 15-14, their first lead since 2-1. Meredith Brown added to the run with a block and then Kate Vondrak got rolling at the net and dominated. The sophomore scored three straight points for the Raiders with two of them back-to-back kills. The Raiders led 20-16 when Mary Bontrager went back to serve. The junior served the set out. Vondrak had two more kills late including the final point.
Paige Wunschel scored on a kill in set two to get the Raiders on the board, down 4-1. Back-to-back kills by Vondrak and Fischer cut their deficit to 7-5. Those two went back-to-back again with kills with Fischer giving the Raiders an 8-7 lead. East Sac began to open it up when Meredith Brown had another block, followed by a Vondrak ace and a Brown kill. Brown added another kill a moment later and the Raiders were up 16-10. East Sac extended the lead to 7 on a Vondrak kill and went on to win the set by 7 on a kill by Addisen Ehler.
The third set belong to East Sac. They led 3-0 before Alta-Aurelia scored and tied the set at 5. The Raiders took over at that point and scored three straight again followed by a 8-0 run a few points later that was highlighted by a couple Paige Wunschel kills, a Meredith Brown kill and a Kate Vondrak ace. Brown built the lead to 19-8 with a kill and East Sac was on their way to the conference title.
Kate Vondrak led the offensive attack at the net with 14 kills, Meredith Brown added 10 kills, Paige Wunschel had 7 kills and Carly Fischer finished with 6 kills. Wunschel added a team high 12 assists and Mary Bontrager had 9 assists. The girls felt their back row play was really strong during the win as they finished with 26 digs led by Carly Fischer with 6 and Jen Aschinger and Meredith Brown both with 5. Brown had a team high 3 blocks. Kate Vondrak had 2 of the teams 3 aces.
The Raiders finish the regular season 20-7 and 11-0 in the Twin Lakes Conference. They travel to Alta-Aurelia on Wednesday in a postseason matchup.

Carroll had a tough regular season finale match as they took on the Raccoon River Conference leader Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays Thursday night. Despite the Bluejays finding ways to stay ahead of Carroll, the Tigers showed their toughness and grit throughout the match.
The Tigers and Bluejays in set one were at a standstill at 13-13 as Carroll had plenty of help offensively from Josie Ayala who recorded 10 kills on the night. Yet, Bondruant-Farrar at the end of that set went on a 12-4 run to win set one 25-17. Set two was another close battle between the two teams, seeing Carroll down by a point at 12-11. The Bluejays continued to hold on to that lead and ultimately won set two by a score of 25-16. Not only was Ayala finding success with her swings, Carmyn Schable was an all-around player for the Tigers, recording seven kills, two digs, three aces, and an assist. With help from those two, Carroll started to rally in set three and kept it close. Tied at 20-20, the Bluejays went on another run, this time a 5-0 run that earned them the set three win at 25-20 and the match sweep of Carroll.
As a team, Carroll had 26 kills, seven blocks, and 49 digs on the night. The Tigers start off postseason action with their Class 4A Region 1 first round match against Denison-Schleswig on Tuesday, October 19th.

South Central Calhoun split their final two conference matches of the season losing to Newell Fonda who finished 2nd in the Twin Lakes Conference and beating Sioux Central. The split in matches sent South Central Calhoun to 8-3 in the Twin Lakes Conference and a 4th place finish.
The Titans hit .000 against Newell Fonda in falling in three straight matches. Keira Hammen hit .600 and Riley Batta hit at .227 in the match. The Titans played well on sets one and two, losing close sets. The back row averaged 9 digs per set, finishing with 27 digs for the match. Sayer Steig had all 3 of the team’s aces.
The Titans swung better against Sioux Central finishing at .267. The back row finished with 42 digs, while the front row added 12 blocks. South Central Calhoun served at 87.4% and had 8 aces. They controlled sets one and two before dropping the third set. They came back nicely after the loss and ran away in the fourth set, winning by 20 points.
Riley Batta had a team high 8 kills to go with 6 digs. Brenna McAlister was second on the team in kills with 4 kills. Jayci Graeve had 14 assists. Mollie Monahan led the team with 3 blocks and Keira Hammen had 2 blocks. Sayer Steig again had 3 aces.

Paton Churdan’s last regular season match before their conference tournament saw them go up against Eagle Grove on Thursday night.
The Rockets and Eagles had a close set one with both teams trading blows back and forth. Ultimately, Eagle Grove took set one and rode that momentum into sets two and three. It was a wider point margin in set two as Eagle Grove took it to Paton Chrudan with a set two win at 25-9. Haylee Duckett was everywhere for the Rockets as she recorded three kills, three digs, and an ace on the night. Carmyn Paup gave Duckett some backup with two kills and five digs of her own. Set three was all Eagle Grove as the Eagles took the three set sweep by winning the set 25-6.
The Rockets will travel to CAM-Anita for the Rolling Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday, October 16th.

Audubon and IKM-Manning each went 0-3 on the night with the Wolves going 0-6 in sets and Audubon finishing 1-6 with their set win coming against Riverside. Audubon covered well on the night and continue to improve on serve receive. Head Coach Brandi Gruhn says they continue to improve with their new lineup as the girls are getting more comfortable with their new roles. The team hustled well which helped since they struggled with their serve and swinging at the net. IKM-Manning best set was against AHSTW as they were in both sets. They also played well in the first set against Riverside.
Jaci Christensen led Audubon with 24 kills combined. Aleah Hermansen had a team high 18 assists and Addie Hocker had 12 assists. Audrey Jensen had a team high 21 digs, Jaci Christensen and Kylee Hartl both had 18 digs.
Kylie Powers had 9 kills for the Wolves, Megan Williams added 7 kills. Bianca Cadwell had a team high 10 digs and Taylor Ferneding had 12 assists. Amber Halbur finished with 6 kills and 5 assists.
The Wheelers finish the season 9-17 overall and 1-12 in the WIC. They head to Exira-EHK on Monday for the postseason. IKM-Manning ends the regular season 1-27 overall and 1-8 in the WIC. They travel to Panorama on Monday for the postseason.
