Carroll at MOC-Floyd Valley
Carroll 13
MOC-Floyd Valley 6
The Carroll Tigers grabbed their first district win of the season as they got past MOC-Floyd Valley Friday night in week seven.
In the opening drives for both teams, the ending results were turnovers, but Carroll was able to score on their second drive. Cooper Ludwig was all by himself as he caught a 37-yard touchdown pass on a 4th and 9, giving Carroll the early 6-0 lead. That 6-0 lead for Carroll stood all the way until halftime. The Tigers defense was a wall in the first half, forcing four turnovers, only allowing 40 yards of offense, and recording two sacks. Unfortunately, the Carroll offense was only able to score off one of their seven offensive drives, all of which were inside the Dutchmen territory.
In the second half, MOC-Floyd Valley tied up the contest at 6-6 with a 57-yard TD run, but they had the PAT blocked by Carroll to keep the contest tied. That lone score stood as they only points in the third quarter, thanks to more defensive plays from Carroll. In the fourth quarter, the Tigers were able to find the end zone thanks to Ethan Langeling, hitting Zach Dirkx for a 75-yard touchdown pass to give the Tigers the 13-6 lead. With defense being the main story for the Tigers in this game, it was fitting when Gus Collison intercepted his third pass of the night to seal the win for Carroll.
Carroll’s final home game of the regular season will be up against Sioux Center on Friday, October 15th.

Treynor At Kuemper
Treynor 35
Kuemper 21
The Knights’ chances at the district title faded. Friday night as Treynor took control of the game when Todd Pedersen returned a kickoff for a touchdown to swing momentum the Cardinals way as they scored the last 21 points in the 1st half, sending Kuemper to their third loss of the season and first in the district. Kuemper still has an outside shot at the district title but needs to win at 2nd ranked Underwood on Friday and have Treynor fall to MVAOCOU.

The Knights defense was outstanding early, shutting down the Cardinal outside run game and forcing them to throw. The defense was put in a couple tough situations after an interception and tackle behind the line of scrimmage on a punt gave the Cardinals the ball at the Kuemper 10 and 22 yard lines on back to back drives. The defense forced a fumble on the first of those possessions and Treynor missed a 38-yard field goal after starting at the Knights 22-yard line.
The missed field goal ignited the Kuemper offense. They established the ground game and worked their way down the field on an 11 play 80-yard drive, highlighted by a big catch from Jared Hausman who scored on a 1-yard run to put the Knights ahead 7-0. Kuemper had been dominating the line of scrimmage early in the game and appeared to be in control of the game. Todd Pedersen, scooped up the ensuing kickoff and found a seam and was off to the races. He sprinted past the Kuemper kickoff team and scored sixteen seconds after the Knights had grabbed the lead and Treynor was off and running. The game was tied with 6:32 left in the 1st half but Treynor scored on a 26-yard run by Kaden Miller after Kuemper went three plays and out. A Pedersen interception at the Kuemper 42 set up a 3-yard Miller run with :05 left in the half and Treynor went into half up 21-7.
Kuemper got the ball to start the 2nd half and fumbled on the fifth play and Caleb IIiff recovered at the Knights 43. DJ Vonnahme got the ball back for Kuemper with an interception but Kuemper turned it over for the fourth time when Owen Mieska picked off the pass and returned it for a touchdown to put the Cardinals up 28-7.
Kuemper responded in a hurry as DJ Vonnahme led them down the field
and scored on a 28-yard run to make it 28-14 with 0:13 left in the third quarter. The defense forced a quick punt but AJ Schiltz picked off another Kuemper pass and took it back for their second pick six and they led 35-14. Isaac Evans capped the scoring, picking up a fumble for the Knights and outran everyone to the endzone with 3:10 left in the game. Treynor fell on the onside kick and Treynor was able to run out the clock.
Kuemper turned the ball over 4 times, had the punter tackled for a 8-yard loss and gave up a kickoff return for the touchdown. The two teams combined for three defensive and one special teams touchdown out of the eight touchdowns scored.
Jared Hausman had 23-yards rushing and a touchdown. Taye Vonnahme had 41 yards rushing. Trevor Rial caught 46 yards on 2 passes and Jared Hausman added a 30-yard catch. Cal Wanninger led the defensive attack with 9.5 tackles with 8 of them solo. Evan Adams had 9 tackles with 6 solo. Isaac Evand picked up a fumble and returned it 35-yards for a touchdown. Kuemper finished with 116-yards rushing on 29 carries and went 9-23 passing for 150 yards.
The loss dropped Kuemper to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in district play. Treynor improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in district play. The Knights close out the regular season Friday at Underwood. The Eagles are ranked 2nd and are 7-0 and 4-0.

South Central Calhoun at Woodward Granger
South Central Calhoun 41
Woodward Granger 7
In a battle for the Class 1A District 2 title, South Central Calhoun found ways to get past a strong Woodward Granger defense and gain momentum heading into playoffs with their win over the Hawks.
In the first quarter, it was a battle of who’s defense could stop the other’s offense the most. The lone score of the first quarter came from Blake McAlister who slung it to Kevin King from 18 yards out for a touchdown, giving the Titans the 7-0 lead. At the start of the second quarter, Woodward Granger made an impact quickly with a long rushing touchdown from their own 10 yard line to make it 7-7. South Central Calhoun was on the cusp of taking back the lead when, on the Woodward Granger one yard line, they fumbled the ball and the Hawks recovered. All wasn’t lost as the Titans were quickly able to force a fumble and recover the ball on the Hawk’s 10 yard line. McAlister put the finishing touches on back to back fumbles to score from two yards out and gave South Central Calhoun the lead back at 14-7. The final score of the first half came from McAlister once more as he picked off Woodward Granger quarterback Carter Moran and ran the ball back for a pick six, giving the Titans the 21-7 lead going into halftime.
The Titans came back from halftime ready to play as they received the ball. McAlister grabbed his third touchdown of the night as he grabbed a great pass from Gavin Batta to give South Central Calhoun the 28-7 lead. Woodward Granger’s defense did well at stopping the Titan defense at times, and specifically McAlister, but one aspect that hurt the Hawks were punts. On a 4th and 19, the Hawks went for a punt close to their endzone, and the snap went over the head of the punter, allowing Antonio Sanders to locate and scoop up the ball for a fumble recovery touchdown, increasing the Titan lead to 35-7 going into the fourth quarter. The Titans played to wind down the clock in the final 12 minutes of the contest, but did give Zach Trott a chance to score a three-yard rushing touchdown to extend their lead to 41-7. After all was said and done, the South Central Calhoun Titans captured the Class 1A District 2 title on the road and improved to 6-1 on the season.
The Titans wrap up their regular season schedule with their final home game of the season against district opponent Belmond-Klemme.
