Brincks Exteriors Sports Report: Glidden Ralston Volleyball Wins Tuesday as Area Teams go 1-6

Volleyball Results Tuesday, October 5th 

Carroll At Carlisle

It was a tough night for Carroll on the road as nothing seemed to work well for them. They struggled on defense and on offense. The Tigers hit .044 at the net and weren’t as crisp in serve receive as they have been. Carroll was able to get their serves in but didn’t force Carlisle out of system. Carroll had a chance in set one but came up short. 

Josie Ayala had a solid night with 16 kills and 13 digs. Kaitlyn Tigges finished with 25 assists to go with 8 digs and tied with a team  high 3 blocks. Alexia Thornock also had 3 blocks. Hannah Jorgensen led the Tigers in the back row with 20 digs, followed by Ava Gross with 10 digs. Carroll had just one ace and i t was by Kaitlyn Tigges. 

The loss drops Carroll to 16-15 overall and 3-3 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carlisle improved to 7-15 and 2-5. Carroll is off until next Tuesday when they host ADM.

The Kuemper Knights faced off against Hawkeye Ten opponent Lewis Central Titans in a tough four set match. 

The Knights started off the match on the right foot with a close set one victory at 25-20. Three players for Kuemper were able to record double digit kills in this match, Frannie Glynn and Sophie Badding both recorded 10 kills as Kenzie Schon led the team with 11. Set two was close yet again, but it was the Titans who took the set this time at 25-22. In sets three and four, Lewis Central started to take over and give Kuemper a tough challenge to overcome. The Titans took set three 25-11 and rode that momentum in set four. Kenya Prescott led the team with 10 digs, while Kamryn Venner and Kazie Schon both recorded three digs each. Set four was close in it’s own right, but the Knights eventually fell to Lewis Central by a score of 25-17 and 3-1 in sets. 

The Knights fall to 20-7 overall and 7-3 in the Hawkeye Ten Conference. Kuemper closes out their week of competition on the road where they will compete at the Hampton-Dumont CAL Tournament on Saturday, October 9th.

The Wildcats looked sharp, controlling the entire match in nearly every aspect. They won their 7th straight match and only trailed for a short while in set three. The Wildcats finished the night with 31 kills and 16 aces. They kept West Harrison out of system which helped them get good looks for Vanessa Koehler on the outside and Lauren Hulsing in the middle. 

Vanessa Koehler looked explosive on the outside, skying above the blockers, leading the Wildcats with 11 kills. Lauren Hulsing dominated with her athleticism at the net, adding 10 kills. Addy Boell finished the night with 24 assists. Tiela Janssen high a team high 5 digs. Ashlynn Tigges and Janssen each had 5 aces and Paige Klocke finished with 4 aces. Alicen Dreessen led the Wildcats with 3 blocks. 

The win moves the Wildcats to 13-5 overall and 4-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference. West Harrison falls to 3-18 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Glidden Ralston travels to Ar-We-Va on Thursday.

It was a tough road trip for Ar-We-Va as they struggled to find a rhythm against a good Cougar team. The Rockets best set was the third set, which was a nice bounce back after they struggled in set two. 

Maggie Ragaller and Timberlen Koch tied for the team lead with 4 kills each. Jamie Hausman had a team  high 10 digs and Maggie Ragaller had 9 digs.

The Rockets fell to 2-13 overall and 2-4 in the Rolling Valley Conference. CAM Anita improved to 16-7 and 5-1. Ar-We-Va hosts Glidden Ralston on Thursday.

IKM-Manning fell in a Western Iowa Conference matchup. The Wolves improved in all three sets and hung close in the third set, losing 25-19. The loss drops the Wolves to 1-22 overall and 1-6 in the conference. 

Amber Halbur had a team high 6 assists and Taylor Ferneding added 4 assists. Jessica Christensen led the play at the net with 4 kills and also had a team  high 7 digs. Eryn Ramsey and Bianca Cadwell each 5 digs. Kylie Powers finished with 3 kills.

The Wolves will host Riverside on Thursday.

Audubon at AHSTW

The Audubon Wheelers faced a tough challenger in AHSTW Tuesday night, and while playing better in the third set, they would eventually fall to the Vikings.

 Audubon has a rough start in set number one as the AHSTW Vikings got the better of them with a set win at 25-9. The Wheelers every set got better and better despite set two ending in another AHSTW victory at 25-12. Kylee Hartl and Jaci Christensen were going to work in the back row as both players recorded 12 digs each. Christensen also had help up front as Audrey Jensen and her recorded 10 kills combined, five apiece. Set three was the most competitive set for both teams as Audubon hung on throughout, but ultimately fell short of a comeback as AHSTW put away the Wheelers 25-15 and won 3-0 in sets. 

The Wheelers’ final regular season game before the Western Iowa Conference Tournament will be against LoMa on Thursday, October 7th.

Paton Churdan had a mountain to climb as they took on Rolling Valley Conference leader Woodbine Tuesday night. 

The Rockets showed signs of improvement throughout the match. The Rockets put up 10 points on the Tigers, but Woodbine took set one 25-10. Set two was a bit better for the Rockets, as they’d ultimately fall, but by a smaller margin at 25-13. Set three was the best set for the Rockets, but ultimately the Tigers maintained their title as conference leaders as they won 25-15 in set three and won 3-0 in sets. As on Tuesday night, no stats were available for Paton Churdan. Carroll Broadcasting will update this page once stats have been collected. 

Paton Churdan finishes off their week of competition with a home game against Coon Rapids-Bayard on Thursday, October 7th.

  Due to an official shortage, the home game for Coon Rapids Bayard against Exira-EHK has been postponed to Monday, October 11th. The game will be played in Coon Rapids and will start around 7 pm.
