Kuemper At Atlantic

Kuemper 3

Atlantic 0

25-6, 25-16, 25-19

Kuemper looked really sharp in set one, dominating in every aspect of the game. The Knights served well, keeping Atlantic out of system. Their back row was dynamite, getting the ball to Ashlyn Badding in good position, allowing her to find a bevy of hitters. The block was stuffing almost every swing Atlantic made. Kuemper trailed 1-0 in the opening set before winning by 19 points. Kuemper wasn’t as crisp early in set two, as they trailed 13-7 in a set that had seven ties and three lead changes. They closed out set two on a 18-3 run to win easily and take a 3-0 lead. They trailed early in set three as well before taking the lead for good at 18-17 and pulling away for the sweep.

You could have named several stars for Kuemper in the first set. Sophie Badding was a blocking machine with 4 blocks, including the set ending stuff. Ashlyn Badding found that Kaci Peter was exploding off the ground and swinging hard and kept feeding her the ball and she finished with 5 kills in the set. Frannie Glynn helped put the match away with a 10-0 service run. The back row with Kenya Prescott, Melinda Schaefer, Avarie Pedelty, Kamryn Venner and Ashlyn Badding were on point with their serve receive and dig.

The Knights struggled in the back row to start set two, letting a 3-0 service run on aces help Atlantic build a 13-7 lead. Kenya Prescott helped bring the Knights back with some help from Kenzie Schon who was on fire. Schon finished the set with 8 kills in the set, teamed with Prescott serve and Schon swinging the Knights pulled ahead 14-13 and were only tied once the rest of the set. Kuemper scored 18 of the last 21 points.

Atlantic went up 4-0 in set three but again Kuemper had the answer. Kenzie Schon, Kamryn Venner and Kaci Peter kept swinging. Frannie Glynn had another service run and Kuemper tied the set at 7. The Knights took a brief 9-8 lead but fell behind 16-15. They tied the set at 16 and then went up 17-16. Atlantic tied it at 17 but Kuemper pulled away from there. Sophie Badding ended sets one and two with blocks and she put the icing on the cake with a kill to end the match. Set three was tied five times and had three lead changes.

Kenzie Schon led a terrific night at the net with a .688 kill efficiency and 11 kills. Kaci Peter hit a .429 with 8 kills. Frannie Glynn had 6 kills and Kamryn Venner hit .357 and had 5 kills. Ashlyn Badding kept all the hitters active and did a great job setting the hitters regularly when they were in a groove. She had 33 assists. Frannie Glynn had all 6 of the Knights aces as Kuemper served 95.9%. Sophie Badding had 6 of the teams 9 blocks and helped keep Atlantic at a .058 hitting efficiency. Kenya Prescott led the back row with 10 digs.
