Carroll defense made a stop on 4th down to force a turnover on downs on the Nighthawks opening possession. Gus Collison made a big interception in the 2nd quarter and Carroll turned it into 6 points. Those were the key moments in what was a tough night against the 2nd ranked team in the state.
The Nighthawks had a touchdown called back on their first possession but used a number of big plays to move the ball down the field. They also made plays in special teams to help swing the game completely in their favor. Boyden Hull-Rock Valley blocked a punt, took a kickoff back for a touchdown and used a pair of Tiger turnovers to blow open the game.
Carroll trailed 14-0 when Gus Collison went up high for a nice interception near midfield. He set the Tigers up with their best starting position all night at the Nighthawk 49 yard line. Ethan Lengeling found Zach Dirkx streaking down the middle of the field for a touchdown and Carroll cut the lead to 14-6. Boyden Hull-Rock Valley took the momentum right back when Landyn Van Kekerix scooped up the kickoff and raced down the sideline for a touchdown. The Knighthawks scored 20 points in just over three minutes of game time and led 41-6 at the half.
The Tigers struggled to establish the run game, putting more pressure on the pass game. That allowed Boyden Hull-Rock Valley to come with pressure on nearly every play and they sacked Ethan Lengeling several times and forced him to throw before he wanted to most of the time. Carroll had negative yards rushing in the 1st half and finished the game with 7 yards on 26 carries. Lengeling passed for 80 yards on three completions. The Tiger defense played well but gave up several big plays in the run and pass game.
Jireh Gallegos finished as the Tigers’ leading rusher with 35 yards in the 4th quarter. Chase Ragaller also ran for 7 yards. Zach Dirkx had 2 catches for 56 yards and a touchdown. Nick Macke had the other reception for 24 yards giving them a first down on their opening drive.
The loss drops Carroll to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Class 3A District 1. Boyden Hull-Rock Valley improved to 5-0 and 2-0 in district play. Carroll hosts Bishop Heelan (0-5, 0-2) for homecoming on Friday on KCIM.

Kuemper rolled to their second straight win on Homecoming night as they took on West Monona in a winning effort.
The Knights were dominate to start the contest off in the first quarter. In their opening possession, Taye Vonnahme ran in a two-yard touchdown to give the Knights the 6-0 lead. With an interception from the Kuemper defense, the Knights were able to drive down the field and grab another touchdown, thanks to Cooper Pottebaum with a 25-yard QB sneak, extending their lead to 13-0. West Monona on their ensuing offensive drive fumbled the football where John Boes of Kumper jumped on the ball in the endzone for a touchdown, only 16 second after their last score, giving Kuemper the 20-0 lead before the first quarter expired. The second quarter for Kuemper was highlighted by DJ Vonnahme’s two-yard rushing touchdown and Tommy Fitzsimmons nailing a 36-yard field goal, to give the Knights the 30-0 lead going into the second half.
West Monona was able to turn the tides in their favor in the third quarter. The Spartans got an 18-yard run to get on the board for the first time in the contest, cutting down the Kuemper lead to 30-7. Kuemper’s most costly mistake on offense took place near the West Monona goal line where they fumbled the ball and the Spartans took it 99 yards for their second score of the game. Kuemper held on to their lead going into the fourth quarter at 30-13. In the last quarter of play, Kuemper left the scoreless third quarter behind and took the fourth quarter into their hands. DJ Vonnahme grabbed his second rushing touchdown of the contest to give the Knights the 38-13 lead with 9:08 left to go. Kuemper was able to hold on for the remaining nine minutes to claim victory over West Monona by a final score of 38-13.
The Knights improve to 3-2 on the season. Kuemper will take on East Sac next on October 1st.

The matchup of top 5 ranked teams went to the number 1 Cougars on Friday, thanks in part to a quick start. Audubon turned it over on their first two possessions and the Cougars took advantage. They scored on their first four possessions and built a 24-8 lead by the end of the 1st quarter. Audubon battled back and cut it to 2 and trailed by 8 at half but couldn’t get over the hump and the Cougars scored touchdowns in their last 3 possessions before time expired to improve to 5-0 overall. The loss drops the Wheelers to 4-1.
The Wheelers got the ball to start the game but an interception by Cade Ticknor gave the Cougars good field position and they took advantage. Lane Spieker scored two plays later. Spieker ran to the one yard line on the first play before scoring from a yard out. The Wheelers looked like they would answer on their next drive. After picking up a pair of first downs Ticknor created another turnover and recovered it for the Cougars and took it to the Wheelers 14-yard line. Lane Spieker scored on the next play and the Wheelers found themselves in a quick 16-0 hole less than five minutes into the game. Audubon moved the ball again but turned it over on downs at the Cougar 19-yard line. Lane Spieker took off on a 51-yard touchdown on the next play and it was 24-0. This time the Wheelers responded on their next possession. Carter Andreasen scored on a 63-yard run and the Wheelers trailed 24-8 at the end of the 1st quarter.

The 2nd quarter went back and forth with CAM Anita stretching the lead to 30-8 and the Wheelers answering on a 10-yard run by Gavin Smith. Smith then hit Braden Wessel for an 18-yard touchdown and Audubon was back in the game down 30-22 with 7:25 left in the half. Gavin Smith struck again a few minutes later on a 5-yard run but the two point conversion failed the Wheelers were down 30-28. The big blow in the game came right before half when Lane Spieker found Cade Ticknor for a 20-yard touchdown on the final play of the half. The Cougars had the momentum at half up 36-28.
Gavin Smith scored early in the 3rd quarter on a 24-yard run and the Wheelers were down 36-34. CAM Anita responded with one of their best drives of the night and Lane Spieker scored on a 3-yard run and the Cougars went up 44-34. Spieker extended the lead to 50-34 on a 57-yard run late in the 3rd quarter. Carter Andeasen cut it to 50-42 on a 10-yard touchdown early in the 4th quarter but CAM Anita added a Spieker touchdown run to finish the scoring midway through the 4th quarter. Audubon moved to the 10-yard line on their final drive but couldn’t score and the Cougars ran out the clock.
The Wheelers finished with 347 yards rushing and 387 yards total offense. CAM Anita had 373 yards rushing and 68 yards passing. Lane Spieker scored 7 rushing touchdowns on 40 carries and had all of the Cougars rushing yards. Both teams had two turnovers.
Gavin Smith ran for 193 yards for Audubon and three touchdowns. Carter Andreasen added 154 yards on two touchdowns. Smith passed for 40 yards and a touchdown. Braden Wessel had 75 yards receiving and scored a touchdown. Gavin Larsen led the Wheelers with 10.5 tackles and an interception. Garrett Christensen had 8.5 tackles and recovered a fumble.
The Wheelers sit 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the district as they head to Coon Rapids Bayard on Friday on 93.7 KKRL. Coon Rapids Bayard is 3-2 overall and 1-2 in 8-Man District 10.

Ar-We-Va nabbed their third straight win and did so in convincing fashion. The Rockets scored five touchdowns in the 1st quarter to put the game away quickly. They led 39-0 at half and didn’t allow a point until the final 1:30 of the game when Siouxland Christian scored a pair of touchdowns.
Will Ragallar put the Rockets up early with a 54-yard touchdown run with 10:15 left in the 1st quarter. Ragaller added his 2nd touchdown a few minutes later. This time hitting Blayne Smith on a 17-yard pass, making it 14-0 with 8:07 left in the 1st quarter. Cooper Kock scored on an 8-yard run less than three minutes later and Ar-We-Va was off and running, up 21-0. Ragaller found Kock on a 25-yard pass and Ragaller scored on a 10-yard run late in the 1st quarter and it was 33-0 after one quarter.
Will Ragaller made it 39-0 less than a minute into the 2nd quarter, scoring on a 30-yard run. That would be all the scoring in the 1st half as the Rocket defense continued to dominate holding the Eagles to no points in the 1st half. The defense forced a fumble and got an interception from Jonathan Dose in giving the offense great field position all half long.
The continuous clock made the 2nd half go quickly but Will Ragaller scored on an 11-yard run midway through the 3rd quarter and Blayne Smith hit Wade Ragaller for a 13-yard touchdown late in the 4th quarter. Siouxland Christian scored on an 18-yard run and a 11-yard run over the final minute and a half to wrap up the game.
Will Ragaller finished with 208 yards rushing and 145 yards passing. He had three rushing touchdowns and three more passing. Cooper Kock added 54 yards on the ground and 64 more yards receiving. Kock scored a rushing and a receiving touchdown. Blayne Smith passed for 18-yards and a touchdown and also had a 17-yard touchdown reception.
The Rockets improved to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in District 1. They head to Boyer Valley on Friday. The Bulldogs are 4-1 overall and 2-1 in District 10.

For a second straight week the Wildcats got out to a quick start and put the game out of reach early. They scored 27 points in each of the first two quarters and they were up 54-6 by halftime. The continuous clock limited them in the 2nd half but they still outscored the Wolverines 13-8.
The Wildcats used their power running game to rush 260 yards and passed for another 119 yards. The defense was outstanding again, holding the Wolverines to 139 yards offense. They gave up 78 yards passing and 61 yards rushing on 26 carries or just 2.3 yard per attempt. Kyler Eischeid picked up a fumble and scored for the Wildcats. The special teams got into the party as well with Ethan Olberding returning a punt for a touchdown and had a big kick return to set up the Wildcats in good field position. The Wildcats had six seniors score touchdowns on homecoming.
John Whitver threw it just 4 times with 2 of those going for touchdowns. He finished with 75 yards through the air. Tyler Brant ran for 38 yards and scored twice on 3 carries. Bryson Ertz finished with 74 yards on 4 carries and scored a touchdown, Bennett Janning added 64 yard and a touchdown. Caden Smith caught a pair of touchdown passes and had 65 yards receiving. Jackson Sklenar and Cale Klocke each had a catch and 22 yards receiving. Kyler Eisched returned a fumble 25-yards for a touchdown.
The Wildcats are 2-3 overall and 1-1 in district play and travel to Kingsley Pierson who sits 1-4 overall and 1-2 in district play on Friday.

South Central Calhoun did exactly what they needed to do on Friday night on homecoming. They came out against a struggling Eagle Grove team and put the game away early. The Titans scored 50 points in the 1st half, with 36 of those in the 1st quarter.
The Titans were balanced on offense with 181 yards on the ground and 195 yards through the air. They scored on several big plays throughout the game and only had four penalties for 20 yards, which was an area they focused on this week. The Titans had eight touchdowns of 20-yards or more. South Central Calhoun had 5 rushing touchdowns and threw for four more. The defense forced 3 fumbles, picked off 4 passes and had a safety. They held Eagle Grove to 171 yards rushing and no passing yards.
Kevin King scored less than two minutes into the game on a 39-yard run. They scored two more touchdowns over the next few minutes as Blake McAlister scored from 3-yards and 21-yards. Dominik Kistler picked up a safety on the next Eagle Grove possession making it 24-0. Kevin King added his second touchdown with a 20-yard run and Gavin Batta hit King for a 20-yard touchdown to make it 36-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. Koby Kraft scored a touchdown on a 42-yard pass in the 2nd quarter and Trice Lyons added a 33-yard touchdown just before half.
Dominik Kistler scored on a 24-yard run in the 3rd quarter and Jacob Kalkwarf caught a 21-yard pass in the 4th quarter to wrap up the Titans scoring.
Gavin Batta finished with 112 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns. Andrew Anderson added 41 yards passing a touchdown and Kevin King threw for 42 yards and a touchdown. Blake McAlister finished with 43 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns, Kevin King had 2 touchdowns and 61 yards rushing. Dominik Kistler ran for a touchdown and 34 yards. The Titans host South Hamilton on Friday. South Central Calhoun is 4-1 overall and 2-0 in Class 1A District 2. South Hamilton lost in the closing moments to Woodward Granger on Friday and sit 2-3 overall and 1-1 in district play.

IKM-Manning won their second straight contest and improved to 3-2 as they got past Tri-Center Friday night.
The first quarter for IKM-Manning was a showcase of their defense, forcing a turnover on downs on Tri-Center’s opening drive. The Trojans on IKM-Manning’s opening drive did the same, forcing the Wolves to punt the ball away who got it to the one and a half yard line. Both teams’ offenses were unable to break through with a score and entering the second quarter it was scoreless. Just like the first quarter, both teams were forced to either turnover the ball on downs or punt it away. Tri-Center started with the ball but punted it to the Wolves on their own 40-yard line. IKM-Manning attempted to gain first down yardage on fourth down, but they were stopped short and had to turnover the ball on downs. On the ensuing Tri-Center possession, the Wolves defense grabbed an interception and Amos Rasmussen grabbed the 50-yard touchdown catch to give IKM-Manning the only score in the first half and the lead at 6-0.
In the second half, the Wolves were forced to punt the ball away, but the snap went over the head of the punter and Tri-Center recovered the ball, and took it to the house to tie the game at 6-6 after the missed PAT. The score stood at 6-6 going into the fourth quarter with IKM-Manning on offense with 4th and 8. Rasmussen put the Wolves on top at 9-6 to start the fourth quarter with a 33-yard field goal. With 9:35 left in the contest, the Wolves defense forced another turnover which eventually turned into a three yard touchdown for Rasmussen, giving IKM-Manning the 16-6 lead. The play that ended it for Tri-Center was when IKM-Manning picked off the Trojans with 2:38 left in the game. A few offensive downs later, the Wolves picked up win number three with a 16-6 victory over Tri-Center.
Rasmussen was a force on offense, grabbing two touchdowns off 17 carries, 89 rushing yards, and an interception. Tanner Crawford was strong defensively as he grabbed 7.5 total tackles. The Wolves will kick off October with a match against (4-1) LoMa.

Coon Rapids Bayard had a tough match against West Harrison, gaining more game experience Friday night.
The Crusaders and Hawkeyes were evenly matched in the first quarter, with West Harrison holding the slight 8-6 lead going into the second quarter. Preston McAlister for the Crusaders was a strong defensive wall as he grabbed nine total tackles on the night. West Harrison added another 10 points to their total before halftime, to take an 18-6 lead into the second half.
The Hawkeyes were able to add 14 points and 16 points in the third and fourth quarters respectively. The Crusaders offense were able to add six to their total in the fourth quarter, cutting down the West Harrison lead to 48-12. Ultimately, it was the Hawkeyes picking up a win over Coon Rapids Bayard. Wyatt Oswald grabbed the lone passing touchdown, a 65 yard pass to Omarion Floyd. McAlister was able to run the ball in for a 65 yard rushing touchdown himself. The Crusaders have another challenge on October 1st as they take on Audubon.

East Sac had a tough challenge against Treynor where the Cardinals defeated the Raiders Friday night.
The Cardinals started off the first half with a two touchdown first and second quarter, along with a field goal in the second quarter, taking the 31-0 lead at halftime. Despite the lead for Treynor, East Sac had a big night on defense, recording 73 total tackles against Trynor’s 38, with Tyler Schmitt leading his team with 12 total tackles. Trynor in the third quarter had a lone field goal to give them the 34-0 lead going into the fourth quarter. Schmitt in the fourth quarter was able to find the endzone as he grabbed a rushing touchdown. Ultimately, Treynor grabbed the 34-7 win over East Sac. The Raiders will take on Kuemper next on Friday, October 1st.
