Glidden Ralston At Coon Rapids Bayard

Glidden Ralston 3

Coon Rapids Bayard 1

25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 25-17

Glidden Ralston played well in every aspect on Monday as they kept Coon Rapids Bayard out of system with their serve, blocked well at the net and kept balls alive in the back row, putting their setter in good shape to set hitters who swung hard enough to keep the Crusaders back row deep and then tipped to an open donut. The Crusaders were scrappy and didn’t go away easy leading in all four sets. They were aggressive with their serve  and had a few nice service runs.  The win moves Glidden Ralston to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in the Rolling Valley Conference while Coon Rapids Bayard drops to 5-10 overall and 1-2 in the Rolling Valley.

Breeley Clayburg had 4 early kills for Coon Rapids Bayard as they started quickly in set one. The Crusaders led 3-1 before Glidden Ralston answered and tied the set at 4. Elizabeth Lloyd rotated in for the Wildcats and found the tip shot over the block was open and dropped in 4 shots over a short stretch and helped the Wildcats take the 9-5 lead. The lead grew to 13-7 before Gracy Johnson answered with a nice service run, pulling the Crusaders within 13-11. That would be as close as they would get. Glidden Ralston was balanced and strong up front with Vanessa Koehler, Paige Klocke, Alicen Dreessen, Elizabeth Lloyd and Lauren Hulsing all having good nights. They took control as the Wildcats did a really nice job putting their setter Addy Boell in good shape most of the match to find her hitters with an opportunity to swing or dump to an open spot. The Wildcats closed out set one on a 12-4 run and won 25-15 on a kill by Alicen Dreessen.

Lacie Davis served Coon Rapids Bayard to an 8-1 lead in set two but the Wildcats block would be too much as they chipped away at the deficit. Glidden Ralston tied the set at 10 and took the lead for good at 14-13. Coon Rapids Bayard tied it at 16 and 19 but Glidden Ralston stretched it to 23-19 and then held off  late Crusader charge. The Wildcats won by 2 and led 2-0.

The third set was exciting and went back and forth. It was tied 11 times and saw 7 lead changes. Both teams kept the ball alive with some long rallies. Vanessa Koehler and Paige Klocke came up with some big swings for Glidden Ralston but Breeley Clayburg had her best set since the opening moments of the match and helped the Crusaders rally. They trailed 19-15 late but tied the match at 19 and 20 before taking the lead at 21-20. Glidden Ralston grabbed the lead back but Coon Rapids Bayard rallied again and Brynn Bass gave them a 25-23 win to extend the match to a fourth set.

Coon Rapids Bayard started the 4th set well but Glidden Ralston was too consistent in the back row with Tiela Janssen, Ashlyn Tigges, Summer Toms and Paige Klocke keeping them in system, allowing their hitters to do what they needed. The Glidden Ralston block was solid again and the Wildcats pulled away to win 25-17.

Vanessa Koehler had a big night swinging and finished with 14 kills, Paige Klocke was solid all the way around, adding 10 kills and 11 digs.
